²⁸ And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”^(A)

²⁸ But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”^(A)

³ For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,^(A)

²² and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him.^(A)

¹⁴ Blessed are those who wash their robes,^[a] so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.

¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but obeying the commandments of God is everything.^(A)

¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.^{(A) 11} I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.^(B)

¹² “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.^{(C) 13} No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.^{(D) 14} You are my friends if you do what I command you.^(E)
