³ and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” ^(A)while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,”

⁹ Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, ¹⁰ and ^(A)the rich in his humiliation, because ^(B)like a flower of the grass^[a] he will pass away. ¹¹ For the sun rises with its scorching heat and ^(C)withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

⁶ But you ^(A)have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who ^(B)drag you ^(C)into court?

^3 (A)“Blessed are ^(B)the poor in spirit, for ^(C)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Elisha and the Widow's Oil

4 Now the wife of one of the ^(A)sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord, ^(B)but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.” ² And Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?” And she said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”

¹⁷ Now therefore know this and consider what you should do, ^(A)for harm is determined against our master and against all his house, and he is such ^(B)a worthless man that one cannot speak to him.”

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants, ^(A)“Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? ^(B)There are many servants these days who are breaking away from their masters.
