³ The crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold,
    but the Lord tests the heart.^(A)

¹⁰ See, I have refined you but not like^[a] silver;
    I have tested you in the furnace of adversity.^(A)

¹⁰ I the Lord test the mind
    and search the heart,
to give to all according to their ways,
    according to the fruit of their doings.^(A)

² Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
    test my heart and mind.^(A)

²¹ The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold,
    so a person is tested^[a] by being praised.^(A)

⁹ And I will put this third into the fire,
    refine them as one refines silver,
    and test them as gold is tested.
They will call on my name,
    and I will answer them.
I will say, ‘They are my people,’
    and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ ”^(A)
