^3 (A)The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold,
    ^(B)and the Lord tests hearts.

¹⁰ Behold, I have refined you, ^(A)but not as silver;
    ^(B)I have tried^[a] you in the furnace of affliction.

^10 (A)“I the Lord search the heart
    ^(B)and test the mind,^[a]
(C)to give every man according to his ways,
    according to the fruit of his deeds.”

^2 (A)Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
    test my heart and ^(B)my mind.^[a]

^21 (A)The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold,
    and a man is tested by his praise.

⁹ And ^(A)I will put this third into the fire,
    and refine them as one refines silver,
    and test them as gold is tested.
^(B)They will call upon my name,
    and ^(C)I will answer them.
^(D)I will say, ‘They are my people’;
    and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

¹⁰ For you, O God, have ^(A)tested us;
    you have tried us as silver is tried.
