¹⁶ Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom,
    when they are not able to understand it?^(A)

²⁵ The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him,^(A)
    because his hands refuse to work.
²⁶ All day long he craves for more,
    but the righteous^(B) give without sparing.^(C)

¹⁵ The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,^(A)
    for the ears of the wise seek it out.

²⁶ “‘Go to this people and say,
“You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”
²⁷ For this people’s heart has become calloused;^(A)
    they hardly hear with their ears,
    and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’^[a](B)
