²⁷ Those greedy for unjust gain make trouble for their households,
    but those who hate bribes will live.^(A)

¹⁹ Such is the end^[a] of all who are greedy for gain;
    it takes away the life of its possessors.^(A)

¹⁵ Those who walk righteously and speak uprightly,
    who despise the gain of oppression,
who wave away a bribe instead of accepting it,
    who stop their ears from hearing of bloodshed
    and shut their eyes from looking on evil,
¹⁶ they will live on the heights;
    their refuge will be the fortresses of rocks;
    their food will be supplied, their water assured.

²⁹ Those who trouble their households will inherit wind,
    and the fool will be servant to the wise.

⁸ Woe to those who join house to house,
    who add field to field,
until there is room for no one,
    and you are left to live alone
    in the midst of the land!^(A)
9 The Lord of hosts has sworn in my hearing:
Surely many houses shall be desolate,
    large and beautiful houses, without inhabitant.^(B)
10 For ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one bath,
    and a homer of seed shall yield a mere ephah.^[a](C)

¹⁶ A ruler who lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor,
    but one who hates unjust gain will enjoy a long life.
