²¹ Folly brings joy to one who has no sense,^(A)
    but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.

²³ A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes,^(A)
    but a person of understanding delights in wisdom.

¹⁸ Like a maniac shooting
    flaming arrows of death
¹⁹ is one who deceives their neighbor
    and says, “I was only joking!”

¹⁶ The wise fear the Lord and shun evil,^(A)
    but a fool^(B) is hotheaded and yet feels secure.

⁹ Fools mock at making amends for sin,
    but goodwill is found among the upright.

¹² Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense,^(A)
    but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.^(B)

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord^(A) is the beginning of wisdom;^(B)
    all who follow his precepts have good understanding.^(C)
    To him belongs eternal praise.^(D)

²⁸ And he said to the human race,
    “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
    and to shun evil^(A) is understanding.”^(B)
