^10 (A)Who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
And to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us right things;
^(B)Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, ^(A)and he will increase in learning.

12 “Ephraim ^(A)feeds on the wind,
And pursues the east wind;
He daily increases lies and ^[a]desolation.
^(B)Also they make a ^[b]covenant with the Assyrians,
And ^(C)oil is carried to Egypt.

²⁰ He feeds on ashes;
^(A)A deceived heart has turned him aside;
And he cannot deliver his soul,
Nor say, “Is there not a ^(B)lie in my right hand?”

^5 (A)A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will ^[a]attain wise counsel,
