12 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge,
But he who hates correction is stupid.

13 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction,
^(A)But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

¹² And say:
“How I have hated instruction,
And my heart despised correction!

¹³ In your ^(A)filthiness is lewdness.
Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed,
You will ^(B)not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore,
^(C)Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.
^14 (D)I, the Lord, have spoken it;
^(E)It shall come to pass, and I will do it;
I will not hold back,
^(F)Nor will I spare,
Nor will I relent;
According to your ways
And according to your deeds
^[a]They will judge you,”
Says the Lord God.’ ”

³⁵ “They^(A) have struck me, but I was not hurt;
They have beaten me, but I did not feel it.
When shall ^(B)I awake, that I may seek another drink?”
