Prosperity and Wisdom of Solomon’s Reign

²⁰ Judah and Israel were as numerous ^(A)as the sand by the sea in multitude, ^(B)eating and drinking and rejoicing. ²¹ So ^(C)Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from ^(D)the^[a] River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. ^(E)They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

⁷ For He left of the army of Jehoahaz only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers; for the king of Syria had destroyed them ^(A)and made them ^(B)like the dust at threshing.

²² So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, ^(A)“Every son who is ^[a]born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”

³² In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel; and ^(A)Hazael conquered them in all the territory of Israel ³³ from the Jordan eastward: all the land of Gilead—Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh—from ^(B)Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, including ^(C)Gilead and Bashan.

²⁷ And the children of Israel were mustered and given provisions, and they went against them. Now the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats, while the Syrians filled the ^(A)countryside.

¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel.
