² From the fruit of their words good persons eat good things,
    but the desire of the treacherous is for wrongdoing.

¹⁴ From the fruit of the mouth one is filled with good things,
    and manual labor has its reward.^(A)

²⁰ From the fruit of the mouth one’s stomach is satisfied;
    the yield of the lips brings satisfaction.^(A)

¹¹ The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
    but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.^(A)

³¹ therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way
    and be sated with their own devices.^(A)

¹¹ Do not let the slanderer be established in the land;
    let evil speedily hunt down the violent!^(A)

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness
    and drink the wine of violence.

¹¹ If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood;
    let us wantonly ambush the innocent;^(A)
12 like Sheol let us swallow them alive
    and whole, like those who go down to the Pit.^(B)
13 We shall find all kinds of costly things;
    we shall fill our houses with spoil.

⁶ because they shed the blood of saints and prophets,
    you have given them blood to drink.
It is what they deserve!”

¹⁷ For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you;
    the destruction of the animals will terrify you—^[a]
because of human bloodshed and violence to the earth,
    to cities and all who live in them.^(A)
