¹⁸ For it is ^(A)not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one ^(B)whom the Lord commends.

⁵ Therefore ^(A)do not pronounce judgment before the time, ^(B)before the Lord comes, ^(C)who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. ^(D)Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

^10 (A)According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled^[a] master builder I laid a ^(B)foundation, and ^(C)someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. ¹¹ For no one can lay a ^(D)foundation other ^(E)than that which is laid, ^(F)which is Jesus Christ. ¹² Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— ^13 (G)each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed ^(H)by fire, and ^(I)the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. ¹⁴ If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, ^(J)he will receive a reward. ¹⁵ If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, ^(K)but only as through fire.

²³ Immediately ^(A)an angel of the Lord struck him down, because ^(B)he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

⁸ The master commended the dishonest manager for his ^(A)shrewdness. For ^(B)the sons of this world^[a] are ^(C)more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than ^(D)the sons of light.

⁴² And the Lord said, “Who then is ^(A)the faithful and ^(B)wise ^(C)manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? ^43 (D)Blessed is that servant^[a] whom his master will find so doing when he comes. ⁴⁴ Truly, I say to you, ^(E)he will set him over all his possessions.

⁴ saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? ^(A)See to it yourself.” ⁵ And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, ^(B)he departed, and he went and hanged himself.

⁸ But you have turned aside from the way. ^(A)You have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have corrupted ^(B)the covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts, ⁹ and so ^(C)I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you do not keep my ways but ^(D)show partiality in your instruction.”
