¹¹ Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good.^(A) Anyone who does what is good is from God.^(B) Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.^(C)

²¹ so that, just as sin reigned in death,^(A) so also grace^(B) might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life^(C) through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²⁰ The one who sins is the one who will die.^(A) The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.^(B)

²¹ “But if^(C) a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees^(D) and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.^{(E) 22} None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live.^{(F) 23} Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased^(G) when they turn from their ways and live?^(H)

²⁴ “But if a righteous person turns^(I) from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness^(J) they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die.^(K)

¹¹ For the grace^(A) of God has appeared^(B) that offers salvation to all people.^{(C) 12} It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions,^(D) and to live self-controlled,^(E) upright and godly lives^(F) in this present age,

⁷ Dear children,^(A) do not let anyone lead you astray.^(B) The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.^(C)

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous,^(A) you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.^(B)
