⁴⁴ The king also said to Shimei, “You know in your own heart ^(A)all the harm that you did to David my father. So the Lord will ^(B)bring back your harm on your own head.

³ Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before ^(A)his anointed. ^(B)Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me^[a] and I will restore it to you.” ⁴ They said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man's hand.”

³² The Lord will ^(A)bring back his bloody deeds on his own head, because, without the knowledge of my father David, he attacked and killed with the sword two men ^(B)more righteous and better than himself, ^(C)Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and ^(D)Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah. ^33 (E)So shall their blood come back on the head of Joab and on the head of his descendants forever. But for David and for his descendants and for his house and for his throne there shall be peace from the Lord forevermore.”

³⁷ For you have felt through all my goods; what have you found of all your household goods? Set it here before my kinsmen and ^(A)your kinsmen, that they may decide between us two.

³³ So my honesty will answer for me later, when you come to look into my wages with you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and black among the lambs, if found with me, shall be counted stolen.”
