¹⁹ Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live,
    but whoever pursues evil will die.

¹⁶ The wage of the righteous leads to life,
    the gain of the wicked to sin.

²³ The fear of the Lord is life indeed;
    filled with it one rests secure
    and suffers no harm.^(A)

²⁸ In the path of righteousness there is life;
    in walking its path there is no death.^(A)

³⁶ but those who miss me injure themselves;
    all who hate me love death.”^(A)

²² Right away he follows her
    and goes like an ox to the slaughter
or bounds like a stag toward the trap^[a]
23     until an arrow pierces its entrails.
He is like a bird rushing into a snare,
    not knowing that it will cost him his life.^(A)

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil,
    and they hurry to shed blood.^(A)
17 For in vain is the net baited
    while the bird is looking on;
¹⁸ yet they lie in wait—to kill themselves!
    and set an ambush—for their own lives!
¹⁹ Such is the end^[a] of all who are greedy for gain;
    it takes away the life of its possessors.^(B)
