¹⁸ A wicked person earns deceptive wages,
    but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.^(A)

⁸ Whoever digs a pit may fall into it;^(A)
    whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.^(B)

¹² Sow^(A) righteousness^(B) for yourselves,
    reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;^(C)
    for it is time to seek^(D) the Lord,
until he comes
    and showers his righteousness^(E) on you.
¹³ But you have planted wickedness,
    you have reaped evil,^(F)
    you have eaten the fruit of deception.^(G)
Because you have depended on your own strength
    and on your many warriors,^(H)

⁸ Whoever sows injustice reaps calamity,^(A)
    and the rod they wield in fury will be broken.^(B)

⁵ Those who sow with tears^(A)
    will reap^(B) with songs of joy.^(C)
6 Those who go out weeping,^(D)
    carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
    carrying sheaves with them.

¹⁸ These men lie in wait^(A) for their own blood;
    they ambush only themselves!^(B)
