¹⁷ For in vain is the net baited
    while the bird is looking on;

⁷ Even the stork in the heavens
    knows its times,
and the turtledove, swallow, and crane^[a]
    observe the time of their coming,
but my people do not know
    the ordinance of the Lord.^(A)

²³     until an arrow pierces its entrails.
He is like a bird rushing into a snare,
    not knowing that it will cost him his life.^(A)

    and the donkey its master’s crib,
but Israel does not know;
    my people do not understand.^(A)
