Unbefriedigendes Menschendasein
6 Es gibt ein Übel. das ich gesehen habe unter der Sonne, und das häufig vorkommt bei den Menschen: 2 Wenn Gott einem Menschen Reichtum, Schätze und Ehre gibt, also daß ihm gar nichts fehlt, wonach seine Seele gelüstet; wenn ihm Gott aber nicht gestattet, davon zu genießen, sondern ein Fremder bekommt es zu genießen, so ist das eitel und ein schweres Leid!
3 Wenn ein Mann hundert Kinder zeugte und viele Jahre lebte; so groß auch die Zahl seiner Lebenstage würde, seine Seele würde aber nicht befriedigt von dem Guten, und es würde ihm kein Begräbnis zuteil, so sage ich: Eine Fehlgeburt ist glücklicher als er! 4 Denn sie kam in Nichtigkeit und ging im Dunklen dahin, und ihr Name ist im Dunklen geblieben; 5 auch hat sie die Sonne nie gesehen noch gemerkt; ihr ist wohler als jenem! 6 Und wenn er auch zweitausend Jahre lebte und kein Gutes sähe, geht denn nicht alles an einen Ort?
7 Alle Arbeit des Menschen ist für seinen Mund;
und die Seele wird nicht gesättigt!
8 Denn was hat der Weise vor dem Toren voraus,
was der Kranke, der weiß, wie man wandeln soll, vor den Gesunden?
9 Besser mit den Augen anschauen, als mit der Begierde herumschweifen!
Auch das ist eitel und Haschen nach Wind.
10 Was immer entstanden ist, längst ward es mit Namen genannt! Und es ist bekannt, was ein Mensch ist:
er kann nicht rechten mit dem, der mächtiger ist als er;
11 denn wenn er auch viele Worte macht,
so sind sie doch ganz vergeblich; was hat der Mensch davon?
12 Denn wer weiß, was dem Menschen gut ist im Leben, die Zahl der Tage seines eitlen Lebens, welche er wie ein Schatten verbringt? Wer will dem Menschen kundtun, was nach ihm sein wird unter der Sonne?

6 我看見日光之下有一件憾事，重壓在世人身上。 2 蒙 神賜予財富、資產和榮譽的人，心裡所願的，都一無所缺，可是 神使他無力享用，反而有外人來享用。這是虛空，也是禍患。
3 人如果生下百子，活了許多歲數，年日長久，但是心裡不因美物滿足，又得不到安葬，我以為流產的胎比他還好。 4 因為這胎虛虛而來，暗暗而去，黑暗把他的名字遮蔽了。 5 這胎既看不見天日，又一無所知，就比那人更得安息。 6 那人即使活了一千年，再活一千年，也享受不到甚麼；他們兩者不是都歸一個地方嗎？
7 人的一切勞碌都為口腹，他的心卻還是填不滿。 8 智慧人比愚昧人有甚麼長處呢？窮人在眾人面前知道怎樣行事為人，又有甚麼長處呢？ 9 眼睛看見的，勝過心中想望的。這也是虛空，也是捕風。
10 已經存在的，早已有了名稱；大家都知道人是怎樣的；人絕對無法與比自己強的抗辯。 11 因為話語增多，虛空也增多，這對人有甚麼益處呢？ 12 在虛空、消逝如影的人生，短暫的日子裡，有誰知道甚麼是對人有益處呢？誰能告訴人他死後在日光之下會發生甚麼事呢？

6 I have seen another evil under the sun, and it weighs heavily on mankind: 2 God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them,(A) and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.(B)
3 A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn(C) child is better off than he.(D) 4 It comes without meaning, it departs in darkness, and in darkness its name is shrouded. 5 Though it never saw the sun or knew anything, it has more rest than does that man— 6 even if he lives a thousand years twice over but fails to enjoy his prosperity. Do not all go to the same place?(E)
7 Everyone’s toil is for their mouth,
yet their appetite is never satisfied.(F)
8 What advantage have the wise over fools?(G)
What do the poor gain
by knowing how to conduct themselves before others?
9 Better what the eye sees
than the roving of the appetite.
This too is meaningless,
a chasing after the wind.(H)
10 Whatever exists has already been named,(I)
and what humanity is has been known;
no one can contend
with someone who is stronger.
11 The more the words,
the less the meaning,
and how does that profit anyone?
12 For who knows what is good for a person in life, during the few and meaningless days(J) they pass through like a shadow?(K) Who can tell them what will happen under the sun after they are gone?

2 A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
3 If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.
4 For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.
5 Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.
6 Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?
7 All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
8 For what hath the wise more than the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?
9 Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
10 That which hath been is named already, and it is known that it is man: neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he.
11 Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?
12 For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

Wealth Is Not the Goal of Life
6 There(A) is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men: 2 A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor, (B)so that he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; (C)yet God does not give him power to eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it. This is vanity, and it is an evil [a]affliction.
3 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or (D)indeed he has no burial, I say that (E)a [b]stillborn child is better than he— 4 for it comes in vanity and departs in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness. 5 Though it has not seen the sun or known anything, this has more rest than that man, 6 even if he lives a thousand years twice—but has not seen goodness. Do not all go to one (F)place?
7 (G)All the labor of man is for his mouth,
