¹⁷ Do not gloat^(A) when your enemy falls;
    when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,^(B)
18 or the Lord will see and disapprove
    and turn his wrath away from them.^(C)

¹⁹ Do not fret^(D) because of evildoers
    or be envious of the wicked,
²⁰ for the evildoer has no future hope,
    and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.^(E)

¹ Do not fret because of those who are evil
    or be envious^(A) of those who do wrong;^(B)
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,^(C)
    like green plants they will soon die away.^(D)
