⁶ that the sharing of your faith may become effective ^(A)by the acknowledgment of ^(B)every good thing which is in ^[a]you in Christ Jesus.

⁹ And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, ¹⁰ that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, ¹¹ being filled with the fruits of righteousness ^(A)which are by Jesus Christ, ^(B)to the glory and praise of God.

⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither ^[a]barren ^(A)nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Preeminence of Christ

^9 (A)For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask ^(B)that you may be filled with ^(C)the knowledge of His will ^(D)in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

^5 (A)who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

^6 (B)In this you greatly rejoice, though now ^(C)for a little while, if need be, ^(D)you have been ^[a]grieved by various trials, ⁷ that ^(E)the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though ^(F)it is tested by fire, ^(G)may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, ^8 (H)whom having not ^[b]seen you love. ^(I)Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, ^(A)that they may see your good works and ^(B)glorify your Father in heaven.

^12 (A)having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, ^(B)they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹⁷ Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
