⁶ I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.

⁸ For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive^(A) in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.^(B)

⁹ And this is my prayer: that your love^(A) may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,^{(B) 10} so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,^{(C) 11} filled with the fruit of righteousness^(D) that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

⁵ who through faith are shielded by God’s power^(A) until the coming of the salvation^(B) that is ready to be revealed^(C) in the last time. ⁶ In all this you greatly rejoice,^(D) though now for a little while^(E) you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.^{(F) 7} These have come so that the proven genuineness^(G) of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire^(H)—may result in praise, glory and honor^(I) when Jesus Christ is revealed.^{(J) 8} Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him^(K) and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

⁹ For this reason, since the day we heard about you,^(A) we have not stopped praying for you.^(B) We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will^(C) through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,^[a](D)

¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before others,^(A) that they may see your good deeds^(B) and glorify^(C) your Father in heaven.

¹² Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds^(A) and glorify God^(B) on the day he visits us.

¹⁷ In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.^(A)

¹⁴ What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?^(A) Can such faith save them?
