14 Nevertheless, you did well to share with me in my trouble.

15 And as you Philippians know, at the beginning of my gospel ministry, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in this matter of giving and receiving except you alone. 16 For even in Thessalonica on more than one occasion[a] you sent something for my need. 17 I do not say this because I am seeking a gift.[b] Rather, I seek the credit that abounds to your account. 18 For I have received everything, and I have plenty. I have all I need because I received from Epaphroditus what you sent—a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God. 19 And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. 20 May glory be given to God our Father forever and ever. Amen.

  1. Philippians 4:16 tn Or “several times”; Grk, “both once and twice.” The literal expression “once and twice” is frequently used as a Greek idiom referring to an indefinite low number, but more than once (“several times”); see L&N 60.70.
  2. Philippians 4:17 tn Grk “Not that I am seeking the gift.” The phrase “I do not say this…” has been supplied in the translation to complete the thought for the modern reader.

14 Nevertheless, you have done well to (A)fellowship with me in my affliction.

15 And you yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the [a](B)first preaching of the gospel, after I left (C)Macedonia, no church (D)fellowshipped with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone. 16 For even in (E)Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. 17 (F)Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek the fruit which increases to your account. 18 But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I have been filled, having received from (G)Epaphroditus [b]what you have sent, [c](H)a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And (I)my God will fulfill [d]all your needs according to His (J)riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 Now to (K)our God and Father (L)be the glory [e]forever and ever. Amen.
