Lights in the World

¹² Therefore, my beloved, ^(A)as you have always ^(B)obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

⁵ For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith ^(A)with virtue,^[a] and virtue ^(B)with knowledge, ⁶ and knowledge with self-control, and self-control ^(C)with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, ⁷ and godliness ^(D)with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection ^(E)with love. ⁸ For if these qualities^[b] are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or ^(F)unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he ^(G)is blind, having forgotten that he was ^(H)cleansed from his former sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brothers,^[c] be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and ^(I)election, for if you practice these qualities ^(J)you will never fall.

^58 (A)Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in ^(B)the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord ^(C)your labor is not in vain.

²³ And someone said to him, “Lord, ^(A)will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, ^24 (B)“Strive ^(C)to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

¹¹ Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so ^(A)that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

¹¹ Beloved, I urge you ^(A)as sojourners and exiles ^(B)to abstain from the passions of the flesh, ^(C)which wage war against your soul.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and ^(A)learn from me, for I am ^(B)gentle and lowly in heart, and ^(C)you will find rest for your souls.

¹³ Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: ^(A)forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for ^(B)the prize of the upward ^(C)call of God in Christ Jesus.

^27 (A)Do not work for the food that perishes, but for ^(B)the food that endures to eternal life, which ^(C)the Son of Man will give to you. For on ^(D)him God the Father has ^(E)set his seal.” ²⁸ Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing ^(F)the works of God?” ²⁹ Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, ^(G)that you believe in him whom ^(H)he has sent.”
