¹⁵ Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:

Avoid Divisive Persons

¹⁷ Now I urge you, brethren, note those ^(A)who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and ^(B)avoid them. ¹⁸ For those who are such do not serve our Lord ^[a]Jesus Christ, but ^(C)their own belly, and ^(D)by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

^3 (A)Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but ^(B)in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

¹³ For such ^(A)are false apostles, ^(B)deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.

^2 (A)Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, ^(B)not by compulsion but ^[a]willingly, ^(C)not for dishonest gain but eagerly; ³ nor as ^(D)being ^[b]lords over ^(E)those entrusted to you, but ^(F)being examples to the flock; ⁴ and when ^(G)the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive ^(H)the crown of glory that does not fade away.

^16 [a]The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; ¹⁷ but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. ¹⁸ What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.

^5 (A)For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ^(B)ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.

¹⁹ For ^(A)the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, ^(B)Silvanus, and ^(C)Timothy—was not Yes and No, ^(D)but in Him was Yes.

³ for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and ^[a]behaving like mere men? ⁴ For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?
