(A)I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in (B)my every prayer for you all, in view of your [a](C)participation in the (D)gospel (E)from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work [b]among you will complete it [c]by (F)the day of Christ Jesus. [d]For (G)it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I (H)have you in my heart, since both in my [e](I)imprisonment and in the (J)defense and confirmation of the (K)gospel, you all are [f]partakers of grace with me. For (L)God is my witness, how I long for you all with the [g]affection of (M)Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that (N)your love may overflow still more and more in (O)real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may [h](P)discover the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and blameless for (Q)the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the (R)fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

I thank my God every time I remember you.(A) In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray(B) with joy because of your partnership(C) in the gospel from the first day(D) until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion(E) until the day of Christ Jesus.(F)

It is right(G) for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart(H) and, whether I am in chains(I) or defending(J) and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify(K) how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

And this is my prayer: that your love(L) may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,(M) 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,(N) 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness(O) that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

Obey God and Prosper

“Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, so that you may do them in the land where you are going over to take possession of it, so that you, your son, and your grandson will (A)fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, (B)all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. Now Israel, you shall listen and be careful to do them, so that (C)it may go well for you and that you may increase greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has [a]promised you, in (D)a land flowing with milk and honey.

(E)Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the (F)Lord is one! And (G)you shall love the Lord your God (H)with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (I)These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. And (J)you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. (K)You shall also tie them as a [b]sign to your [c]hand, and they shall be as [d]frontlets [e]on your forehead. (L)You shall also write them on the [f]doorposts of your house and on your gates.

10 “Then it shall come about when the Lord your God brings you into the land that He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you, (M)great and splendid cities which you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and carved cisterns which you did not carve out, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and (N)you eat and are satisfied, 12 be [g]careful that (O)you do not forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [h]slavery. 13 (P)You shall [i]fear only the Lord your God; and you shall [j]worship Him and (Q)swear by His name. 14 (R)You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15 for the Lord your God who is in the midst of you is a (S)jealous God; so follow Him, or else the anger of the Lord your God will be kindled against you, and He will [k]wipe you off the face of the earth.

16 (T)You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, (U)as you tested Him at Massah. 17 (V)You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and His provisions and His statutes which He has commanded you. 18 You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, so that (W)it may go well for you and that you may go in and take possession of the good land which the Lord swore to give your fathers, 19 by driving out all your enemies from you, as the Lord has spoken.

20 (X)When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What do the provisions and the statutes and the judgments mean which the Lord our God commanded you?’ 21 then you shall say to your son, ‘We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Moreover, the Lord provided great and terrible signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household; 23 He brought us out of there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.’ 24 So the Lord commanded us to [l]follow all these statutes, (Y)to fear the Lord our God for our own good always and (Z)for our survival, as it is today. 25 And (AA)it will be righteousness for us if we are careful to [m]follow all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us.

Love the Lord Your God

These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear(A) the Lord your God as long as you live(B) by keeping all his decrees and commands(C) that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.(D) Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey(E) so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly(F) in a land flowing with milk and honey,(G) just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised(H) you.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a](I) Love(J) the Lord your God with all your heart(K) and with all your soul and with all your strength.(L) These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.(M) Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.(N) Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.(O) Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.(P)

10 When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build,(Q) 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig,(R) and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied,(S) 12 be careful that you do not forget(T) the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

13 Fear the Lord(U) your God, serve him only(V) and take your oaths(W) in his name.(X) 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; 15 for the Lord your God(Y), who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. 16 Do not put the Lord your God to the test(Z) as you did at Massah. 17 Be sure to keep(AA) the commands of the Lord your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you.(AB) 18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight,(AC) so that it may go well(AD) with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors, 19 thrusting out all your enemies(AE) before you, as the Lord said.

20 In the future, when your son asks you,(AF) “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.(AG) 22 Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God,(AH) so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.(AI) 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law(AJ) before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.(AK)
