Philippians 1:15-18

¹⁵Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: ¹⁶^[a]The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; ¹⁷but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. ¹⁸What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.

¹⁵It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. ¹⁶The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.^(A) ¹⁷The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition,^(B) not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.^(C) ¹⁸But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
