¹⁵ The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry for help.^(A)
16 The face of the Lord is set
against those who do what is evil,^(B)
to remove^[a] all memory of them from the earth.^(C)
17 The righteous^[b] cry out, and the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.^(D)
18 The Lord is near the brokenhearted;
he saves those crushed in spirit.^(E)

Where can I flee from your presence?^(A)
8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;^(B)
if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.^(C)
9 If I fly on the wings of the dawn
and settle down on the western horizon,^[a]
10 even there your hand will lead me;
your right hand will hold on to me.^(D)
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me,
and the light around me will be night”^(E)—
¹² even the darkness is not dark to you.
The night shines like the day;
darkness and light are alike to you.^(F)
