9 Do not be like a horse or mule,
without understanding,
that must be controlled with bit and bridle
or else it will not come near you.^(O)

but the one who trusts in the Lord
will have faithful love surrounding him.^(Q)
11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice,
you righteous ones;
shout for joy,
all you upright in heart.^(R)

Where can I flee from your presence?^(A)
8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;^(B)
if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.^(C)
9 If I fly on the wings of the dawn
and settle down on the western horizon,^[a]
10 even there your hand will lead me;
your right hand will hold on to me.^(D)

⁸ He will be like a tree planted by water:^(B)
it sends its roots out toward a stream,
it doesn’t fear when heat comes,
and its foliage remains green.
It will not worry in a year of drought
or cease producing fruit.
