Psalm 145

Praising God’s Greatness

A hymn of David.

²² The crowd joined in the attack against them, and the chief magistrates stripped off their clothes and ordered them to be beaten with rods.^{(A) 23} After they had severely flogged them, they threw them in jail, ordering the jailer to guard them carefully. ²⁴ Receiving such an order, he put them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the stocks.^(B)

A Midnight Deliverance

²⁵ About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

¹⁰ Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters.^(A) Take the lead in honoring one another.^{(B) 11} Do not lack diligence in zeal; be fervent in the Spirit;^[a](C) serve the Lord.^{(D) 12} Rejoice in hope;^(E) be patient in affliction;^(F) be persistent in prayer.^{(G) 13} Share with the saints in their needs;^(H) pursue hospitality.^{(I) 14} Bless those who persecute you;^(J) bless and do not curse. ¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice;^(K) weep with those who weep. ¹⁶ Live in harmony with one another.^(L) Do not be proud;^(M) instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation.^{(N) 17} Do not repay anyone evil for evil.^(O) Give careful thought to do what is honorable^(P) in everyone’s eyes. ¹⁸ If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.^(Q)
