⁶ The Lord works ^(J)righteousness
    and justice for all who are oppressed.
⁷ He made known his ^(K)ways to Moses,
    his ^(L)acts to the people of Israel.
⁸ The Lord is ^(M)merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
^9 (N)He will not always chide,
    nor will he ^(O)keep his anger forever.
¹⁰ He does not deal with us ^(P)according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
¹¹ For ^(Q)as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his ^(R)steadfast love toward ^(S)those who fear him;
¹² as far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he ^(T)remove our transgressions from us.
¹³ As ^(U)a father shows compassion to his children,
    so the Lord shows compassion ^(V)to those who fear him.
¹⁴ For he knows our frame;^[a]
    he ^(W)remembers that we are dust.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are like ^(X)grass;
    he flourishes like ^(Y)a flower of the field;
¹⁶ for ^(Z)the wind passes over it, and ^(AA)it is gone,
    and ^(AB)its place knows it no more.
¹⁷ But ^(AC)the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on ^(AD)those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to ^(AE)children's children,
¹⁸ to those who ^(AF)keep his covenant
    and ^(AG)remember to do his commandments.
¹⁹ The Lord has ^(AH)established his throne in the heavens,
    and his ^(AI)kingdom rules over all.

²⁰ Bless the Lord, O you ^(AJ)his angels,
    you ^(AK)mighty ones who ^(AL)do his word,
    obeying the voice of his word!
²¹ Bless the Lord, all his ^(AM)hosts,
    his ^(AN)ministers, who do his will!
^22 (AO)Bless the Lord, all his works,
    in all places of his dominion.
^(AP)Bless the Lord, O my soul!

⁵ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
    Let your glory be over all the earth!
^6 (C)That your beloved ones may be delivered,
    give salvation by your right hand and answer me!

⁷ God has promised in his holiness:^[b]
    “With exultation I will divide up Shechem
    and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
⁸ Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah my scepter.
⁹ Moab is my washbasin;
    upon Edom I cast my shoe;
    ^(D)over Philistia I shout in triumph.”

¹⁰ Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
¹¹ Have you not rejected us, O God?
    You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
¹² Oh grant us help against the foe,
    for vain is the salvation of man!
¹³ With God we shall do valiantly;
    it is he who will tread down our foes.

^6 (L)Appoint a wicked man ^(M)against him;
    let an accuser stand ^(N)at his right hand.
⁷ When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;
    let his ^(O)prayer be counted as sin!
⁸ May his ^(P)days be few;
    may ^(Q)another take his ^(R)office!
⁹ May his ^(S)children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow!
¹⁰ May his children ^(T)wander about and beg,
    ^(U)seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
¹¹ May ^(V)the creditor seize all that he has;
    may ^(W)strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
¹² Let there be none to ^(X)extend kindness to him,
    nor any to ^(Y)pity his fatherless children!
¹³ May his ^(Z)posterity be cut off;
    may his ^(AA)name be blotted out in the second generation!
¹⁴ May ^(AB)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
    and let not the sin of his mother be ^(AC)blotted out!
^15 (AD)Let them be before the Lord continually,
    that he may ^(AE)cut off the memory of them from the earth!

¹⁶ For he did not remember to show kindness,
    but pursued ^(AF)the poor and needy
    and ^(AG)the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
^17 (AH)He loved to curse; let curses come^[d] upon him!
    He did not delight in blessing; may it be far^[e] from him!
¹⁸ He ^(AI)clothed himself with cursing as his coat;
    may it ^(AJ)soak^[f] into his body like water,
    like oil into his bones!
¹⁹ May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,
    like a belt that he puts on every day!
²⁰ May this be the reward of my ^(AK)accusers from the Lord,
    of those who speak evil against my life!

²¹ But you, O God my Lord,
    deal on my behalf ^(AL)for your name's sake;
    because your ^(AM)steadfast love is good, deliver me!
²² For I am ^(AN)poor and needy,
    and my heart is stricken within me.
²³ I am gone like ^(AO)a shadow at evening;
    I am ^(AP)shaken off like a locust.
²⁴ My knees are weak ^(AQ)through fasting;
    my ^(AR)body has become gaunt, with no fat.
²⁵ I am ^(AS)an object of scorn to my accusers;
    when they see me, they ^(AT)wag their heads.

^26 (AU)Help me, O Lord my God!
    Save me according to your steadfast love!
²⁷ Let them ^(AV)know that this is your hand;
    you, O Lord, have done it!
^28 (AW)Let them curse, but you will bless!
    They arise and are put to shame, but ^(AX)your servant will be glad!
²⁹ May my accusers be ^(AY)clothed with dishonor;
    may they ^(AZ)be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!

³⁰ With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
    I will ^(BA)praise him in the midst of the throng.
³¹ For he stands ^(BB)at the right hand of the needy one,
    to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.

² The Lord sends forth ^(BG)from Zion
    ^(BH)your mighty scepter.
    ^(BI)Rule in the midst of your enemies!
^3 (BJ)Your people will ^(BK)offer themselves freely
    on the day of your ^(BL)power,^[g]
    in ^(BM)holy garments;^[h]
from the womb of the morning,
    the dew of your youth will be yours.^[i]
4 (BN)The Lord has ^(BO)sworn
    and will ^(BP)not change his mind,
^(BQ)“You are ^(BR)a priest ^(BS)forever
    after the order of ^(BT)Melchizedek.”

⁵ The Lord is at your ^(BU)right hand;
    he will ^(BV)shatter kings on ^(BW)the day of his wrath.
⁶ He will ^(BX)execute judgment among the nations,
    ^(BY)filling them with corpses;
he will ^(BZ)shatter chiefs^[j]
    over the wide earth.
⁷ He will ^(CA)drink from the brook by the way;
    therefore he will lift up his head.

³ Jerusalem—^(C)built as a city
    that is ^(D)bound firmly together,
⁴ to which the tribes ^(E)go up,
    the tribes of the Lord,
as was ^(F)decreed for^[a] Israel,
    to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
⁵ There ^(G)thrones for judgment were set,
    the thrones of the house of David.

^6 (H)Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
    “May they be secure who love you!
⁷ Peace be within your ^(I)walls
    and security within your ^(J)towers!”
⁸ For my brothers and companions' sake
    I will say, ^(K)“Peace be within you!”
⁹ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will ^(L)seek your good.

⁶ Blessed be the Lord,
    who has not given us
    as prey to their teeth!
⁷ We have escaped like a bird
    from ^(H)the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
    and we have escaped!

^8 (I)Our help is in the name of the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.
