A Plea for Justice

A Psalm of Asaph.

82 God (A)stands in the congregation of [a]the mighty;
He judges among (B)the [b]gods.
How long will you judge unjustly,
And (C)show partiality to the wicked? Selah
[c]Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and (D)needy.
Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.

They do not know, nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the (E)foundations of the earth are [d]unstable.

I said, (F)“You are [e]gods,
And all of you are children of the Most High.
But you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the princes.”

Arise, O God, judge the earth;
(G)For You shall inherit all nations.

Prayer to Frustrate Conspiracy Against Israel

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

83 Do(A) not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!
For behold, (B)Your enemies make a [a]tumult;
And those who hate You have [b]lifted up their head.
They have taken crafty counsel against Your people,
And consulted together (C)against Your sheltered ones.
They have said, “Come, and (D)let us cut them off from being a nation,
That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

For they have consulted together with one [c]consent;
They [d]form a confederacy against You:
(E)The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot. Selah

Deal with them as with (F)Midian,
As with (G)Sisera,
As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,
10 Who perished at En Dor,
(H)Who became as refuse on the earth.
11 Make their nobles like (I)Oreb and like Zeeb,
Yes, all their princes like (J)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, “Let us take for ourselves
The pastures of God for a possession.”

13 (K)O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
(L)Like the chaff before the wind!
14 As the fire burns the woods,
And as the flame (M)sets the mountains on fire,
15 So pursue them with Your tempest,
And frighten them with Your storm.
16 Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be [e]confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
18 (N)That they may know that You, whose (O)name alone is the Lord,
Are (P)the Most High over all the earth.

The Blessedness of Dwelling in the House of God

To the Chief Musician. (A)On[a] an instrument of Gath. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

84 How (B)lovely [b]is Your tabernacle,
O Lord of hosts!
(C)My soul longs, yes, even faints
For the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young—
Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts,
My King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your (D)house;
They will still be praising You. Selah

Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley (E)of [c]Baca,
They make it a spring;
The rain also covers it with [d]pools.
They go (F)from strength to strength;
[e]Each one (G)appears before God in Zion.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
(H)O God, behold our shield,
And look upon the face of Your [f]anointed.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather [g]be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is (I)a sun and (J)shield;
The Lord will give grace and glory;
(K)No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.

12 O Lord of hosts,
(L)Blessed is the man who trusts in You!

19 For (A)the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For (B)the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of [a]corruption into the glorious (C)liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation (D)groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have (E)the firstfruits of the Spirit, (F)even we ourselves groan (G)within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the (H)redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but (I)hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For (J)we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but (K)the Spirit Himself makes intercession [b]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now (L)He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints (M)according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those (N)who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom (O)He foreknew, (P)He also predestined (Q)to be conformed to the image of His Son, (R)that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also (S)called; whom He called, these He also (T)justified; and whom He justified, these He also (U)glorified.

God’s Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? (V)If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 (W)He who did not spare His own Son, but (X)delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? (Y)It is God who justifies. 34 (Z)Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, (AA)who is even at the right hand of God, (AB)who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

(AC)“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 (AD)Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor (AE)principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
