O Lord, Do Not Delay
To the choirmaster. Of David, (A)for the memorial offering.
70 (B)Make haste, O God, to deliver me!
O Lord, make haste to help me!
2 Let them be put to shame and confusion
who seek my life!
Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor
who delight in my hurt!
3 Let them turn back because of their shame
who say, “Aha, Aha!”
4 May all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you!
May those who love your salvation
say evermore, “God is great!”
5 But I am poor and needy;
(C)hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O Lord, do not delay!
Forsake Me Not When My Strength Is Spent
71 (D)In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame!
2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me, and save me!
3 Be to me a rock of (E)refuge,
to which I may continually come;
you have (F)given the command to save me,
for you are my (G)rock and my fortress.
4 (H)Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.
5 For you, O Lord, are my (I)hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
6 Upon you I have leaned (J)from before my birth;
you are he who (K)took me from my mother's womb.
My praise is continually of you.
7 I have been as (L)a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
8 My (M)mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all the day.
9 (N)Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
forsake me not when my strength is spent.
10 For my enemies speak concerning me;
those who (O)watch for my life (P)consult together
11 and say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue and seize him,
for there is none to deliver him.”
12 O God, be not (Q)far from me;
O my God, (R)make haste to help me!
13 May my accusers be (S)put to shame and consumed;
(T)with scorn and disgrace may they be covered
who (U)seek my hurt.
14 But I will (V)hope continually
and will (W)praise you yet more and more.
15 My (X)mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all the day,
for (Y)their number is past my knowledge.
16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;
I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.
17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
18 So even to (Z)old age and gray hairs,
O God, (AA)do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might to another generation,
your power to all those to come.
19 Your (AB)righteousness, O God,
reaches the high heavens.
You who have done (AC)great things,
O God, (AD)who is like you?
20 You who have (AE)made me see many troubles and calamities
will (AF)revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
21 You will increase my greatness
and comfort me again.
22 I will also praise you with (AG)the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O (AH)Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy,
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have (AI)redeemed.
24 And my (AJ)tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,
for they have been (AK)put to shame and disappointed
who sought to do me hurt.
Give the King Your Justice
Of (AL)Solomon.
72 Give the king your (AM)justice, O God,
and your righteousness to the royal son!
2 May he (AN)judge your people with righteousness,
and your poor with justice!
3 Let the mountains bear (AO)prosperity for the people,
and the hills, in righteousness!
4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,
give deliverance to the children of the needy,
and crush the oppressor!
5 May they fear you[a] while (AP)the sun endures,
and as long as the moon, (AQ)throughout all generations!
6 May he be like (AR)rain that falls on (AS)the mown grass,
like (AT)showers that water the earth!
7 In his days may (AU)the righteous flourish,
and (AV)peace abound, till the moon be no more!
8 May he have dominion from (AW)sea to sea,
and from (AX)the River[b] to the (AY)ends of the earth!
9 May desert tribes (AZ)bow down before him,
and his enemies (BA)lick the dust!
10 May the kings of (BB)Tarshish and of (BC)the coastlands
render him (BD)tribute;
may the kings of (BE)Sheba and (BF)Seba
bring gifts!
11 May all kings (BG)fall down before him,
all nations serve him!
12 For he delivers (BH)the needy when he calls,
the poor and him who has no helper.
13 He has pity on the weak and the needy,
and saves the lives of the needy.
14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life,
and (BI)precious is their blood in his sight.
15 Long may he live;
may (BJ)gold of Sheba be given to him!
May prayer be made (BK)for him continually,
and blessings invoked for him all the day!
16 May there be abundance of grain in the land;
on the tops of the mountains may it wave;
may its fruit be like Lebanon;
and may people (BL)blossom in the cities
like the (BM)grass of the field!
17 (BN)May his name endure forever,
his fame continue as long as the sun!
(BO)May people be blessed in him,
(BP)all nations call him blessed!
18 (BQ)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
who alone does (BR)wondrous things.
19 Blessed be his (BS)glorious name forever;
may (BT)the whole earth be filled with his glory!

may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.(D)
3 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”(E)
turn back because of their shame.
4 But may all who seek you(F)
rejoice and be glad(G) in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”(H)
5 But as for me, I am poor and needy;(I)
come quickly to me,(J) O God.

1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;(O)
let me never be put to shame.(P)
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;

3 Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.(R)

may those who want to harm me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.(AQ)
14 As for me, I will always have hope;(AR)
I will praise you more and more.
15 My mouth will tell(AS) of your righteous deeds,(AT)
of your saving acts all day long—
though I know not how to relate them all.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts,(AU) Sovereign Lord;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, God, you have taught(AV) me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.(AW)
18 Even when I am old and gray,(AX)
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power(AY) to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.(AZ)
19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,(BA)
you who have done great things.(BB)
Who is like you, God?(BC)
20 Though you have made me see troubles,(BD)
many and bitter,
you will restore(BE) my life again;
from the depths of the earth(BF)
you will again bring me up.
21 You will increase my honor(BG)
and comfort(BH) me once more.
22 I will praise you with the harp(BI)
for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,(BJ)

Psalm 72
Of Solomon.
1 Endow the king with your justice,(BQ) O God,
the royal son with your righteousness.
2 May he judge your people in righteousness,(BR)
your afflicted ones with justice.
3 May the mountains bring prosperity to the people,
the hills the fruit of righteousness.
4 May he defend the afflicted(BS) among the people
and save the children of the needy;(BT)
may he crush the oppressor.(BU)
5 May he endure[b](BV) as long as the sun,
as long as the moon, through all generations.(BW)
6 May he be like rain(BX) falling on a mown field,
like showers watering the earth.
7 In his days may the righteous flourish(BY)
and prosperity abound till the moon is no more.
8 May he rule from sea to sea
and from the River[c](BZ) to the ends of the earth.(CA)
9 May the desert tribes bow before him
and his enemies lick the dust.
10 May the kings of Tarshish(CB) and of distant shores(CC)
bring tribute to him.
May the kings of Sheba(CD) and Seba
present him gifts.(CE)
11 May all kings bow down(CF) to him
and all nations serve(CG) him.
12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity(CH) on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue(CI) them from oppression and violence,
for precious(CJ) is their blood in his sight.
15 Long may he live!
May gold from Sheba(CK) be given him.
May people ever pray for him
and bless him all day long.(CL)
16 May grain(CM) abound throughout the land;
on the tops of the hills may it sway.
May the crops(CN) flourish like Lebanon(CO)
and thrive[d] like the grass of the field.(CP)
17 May his name endure forever;(CQ)
may it continue as long as the sun.(CR)
18 Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel,(CT)
who alone does marvelous deeds.(CU)
19 Praise be to his glorious name(CV) forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory.(CW)
