Psalm 11-17

^4 (E)The Lord is in his holy temple;
    the Lord's ^(F)throne is in heaven;
    his eyes see, his eyelids ^(G)test the children of man.
⁵ The Lord ^(H)tests the righteous,
    but ^(I)his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
⁶ Let him rain coals on the wicked;
    ^(J)fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be ^(K)the portion of their cup.
⁷ For the Lord is righteous;
he ^(L)loves righteous deeds;
    ^(M)the upright shall behold his face.

³ May the Lord cut off all ^(R)flattering lips,
    the tongue that makes ^(S)great boasts,
⁴ those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,
    our lips are with us; who is master over us?”

⁵ “Because ^(T)the poor are plundered, because the needy groan,
    ^(U)I will now arise,” says the Lord;
    “I will place him in the ^(V)safety for which he longs.”
^6 (W)The words of the Lord are pure words,
    like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
    purified seven times.

⁷ You, O Lord, will keep them;
    you will guard us^[c] from this generation forever.
⁸ On every side the wicked prowl,
    as vileness is exalted among the children of man.

^3 (AB)Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
    ^(AC)light up my eyes, lest ^(AD)I sleep the sleep of death,
^4 (AE)lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
    lest my foes rejoice because I am ^(AF)shaken.

⁵ But I have ^(AG)trusted in your steadfast love;
    my heart shall ^(AH)rejoice in your salvation.
⁶ I will sing to the Lord,
    because he has dealt bountifully with me.

² The Lord ^(AN)looks down from heaven on the children of man,
    to see if there are any who understand,^[d]
    who ^(AO)seek after God.

³ They have all turned aside; together they have become ^(AP)corrupt;
    there is none who does good,
    not even one.

⁴ Have they no ^(AQ)knowledge, all the evildoers
    who ^(AR)eat up my people as they eat bread
    and ^(AS)do not call upon the Lord?

⁵ There they are in great terror,
    for God is with ^(AT)the generation of the righteous.
⁶ You would shame the plans of the poor,
    but^[e] the Lord is his ^(AU)refuge.

⁷ Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When the Lord ^(AV)restores the fortunes of his people,
    let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

² He who ^(AZ)walks blamelessly and ^(BA)does what is right
    and ^(BB)speaks truth in his heart;
³ who ^(BC)does not slander with his tongue
    and does no evil to his neighbor,
    nor ^(BD)takes up a reproach against his friend;
^4 (BE)in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
    but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who ^(BF)swears to his own hurt and does not change;
⁵ who ^(BG)does not put out his money at interest
    and ^(BH)does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be ^(BI)moved.

³ As for ^(BM)the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
    in whom is all my delight.^[g]

⁴ The sorrows of those who run after^[h] another god shall multiply;
    their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
    or ^(BN)take their names on my lips.

⁵ The Lord is ^(BO)my chosen portion and my ^(BP)cup;
    you hold my ^(BQ)lot.
^6 (BR)The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

⁷ I bless the Lord who ^(BS)gives me counsel;
    in ^(BT)the night also my ^(BU)heart instructs me.^[i]
8 (BV)I have ^(BW)set the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my ^(BX)right hand, I shall not be ^(BY)shaken.

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my ^(BZ)whole being^[j] rejoices;
    my flesh also dwells secure.
¹⁰ For you will not abandon my soul to ^(CA)Sheol,
    ^(CB)or let your ^(CC)holy one see ^(CD)corruption.^[k]

¹¹ You make known to me ^(CE)the path of life;
    in your presence there is ^(CF)fullness of joy;
    at your right hand are ^(CG)pleasures forevermore.

³ You have ^(CK)tried my heart, you have ^(CL)visited me by ^(CM)night,
    you have ^(CN)tested me, and you will find nothing;
    I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
⁴ With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips
    I have avoided the ways of the violent.
⁵ My steps have ^(CO)held fast to your paths;
    my feet have not slipped.

⁶ I ^(CP)call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
    ^(CQ)incline your ear to me; hear my words.
^7 (CR)Wondrously show^[l] your steadfast love,
    O Savior of those who seek refuge
    from ^(CS)their adversaries at your right hand.

⁸ Keep me as ^(CT)the apple of your eye;
    hide me in ^(CU)the shadow of your wings,
⁹ from the wicked who do me violence,
    my deadly enemies who ^(CV)surround me.

^10 (CW)They close their hearts to pity;
    with their mouths they ^(CX)speak arrogantly.
¹¹ They have now surrounded our ^(CY)steps;
    they set their eyes to ^(CZ)cast us to the ground.
¹² He is like a lion eager to tear,
    as a young lion ^(DA)lurking in ambush.

¹³ Arise, O Lord! Confront him, subdue him!
    Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
¹⁴ from men by your hand, O Lord,
    from ^(DB)men of the world whose ^(DC)portion is in this life.^[m]
You fill their womb with treasure;^[n]
    they are satisfied with ^(DD)children,
    and they leave their abundance to their infants.

¹⁵ As for me, I shall ^(DE)behold your face in righteousness;
    when I ^(DF)awake, I shall be ^(DG)satisfied with your likeness.
