Pad Babilona
18 Nakon toga ugledam još jednoga anđela kako silazi s neba s velikom moći - sva se Zemlja rasvijetlila od njegova sjaja.
2 'Pao je!' poviče. 'Pao je Babilon, Bludnica! Postao je prebivalištem zloduha, stjecištem nečistih duhova, gnijezdom nečistih ptica i jazbinom odurnih životinja.
3 Svi su se narodi opili vinom njezina gnjeva i bluda. Zemaljski su kraljevi s njom bludničili, a zemaljski se trgovci bogatili zbog njezine silne raskoši.'
4 Začujem zatim još jedan glas kako viče s neba: 'Iziđite iz nje, moj narode, da vas ne snađe zlo! Ne budite dionicima grijeha!
5 Jer njezini su se grijesi nagomilali do neba i Bog će kazniti njezine opačine.
6 Vratite joj milo za drago. Dvostruko joj platite za njezina djela. U čašu koju je drugima natakala natočite dvostruko!
7 Koliko se razmetala raskoši i uživanjem, toliko joj zadajte muke i jada. U srcu je mislila: "Sjedim kao kraljica na svojemu prijestolju. Nikad neću postati udovicom, nikada me neće snaći jad!'
8 Zato će ju u isti dan zadesiti smrt, i žalost, i glad. Bit će ognjem spaljena. Jer silan je njezin Sudac, Gospodin Bog.'
9 A zemaljski će kraljevi, koji su s njome bludničili i uživali u njezinoj raskoši, za njom tužiti i naricati kad vide kako se diže dim s njezina zgarišta.
10 Stajat će daleko, prestrašeni njezinim mukama, i naricati: "Teško tebi! Teško tebi, Babilone, silni grade! Božja te osuda stigla u tren oka.'
11 Zemaljski će trgovci za njom plakati i tugovati jer više neće imati kome prodavati
12 zlato, srebro, drago kamenje, biserje, fini lan, grimiz, svilu, skrlet, predmete od skupocjena mirisna drva, mjedi, željeza i mramora,
13 cimet, balzam, miomiris, pomasti, tamjan, vino, ulje, bijelo brašno, pšenicu, goveda, ovce, konje, kočije ni robove - žive duše.
14 "Sva dobra za kojima ti je duša žudjela nestala su,' tužit će oni, "sva raskoš i sjaj zauvijek su propali - nema ih više.'
15 Trgovci što su se obogatili prodajući joj sve to, stajat će i gledati izdaleka, prestrašeni njezinim mukama.
16 "Teško tebi!' plakat će i tugovati. "Teško tebi, veliki grade! Nekoć si bio obučen u fini lan, grimiz i skrlet, okićen zlatom, dragim kamenjem i biserjem!
17 Toliko je bogatstvo opustošeno u tren oka!'Svi kormilari i putnici, svi mornari i moreplovci izdaleka će stati i gledati.
18 Plakat će gledajući kako se diže dim njezina požara i zapomagati: "Ima li igdje ovakva grada?'
19 Posipat će se po glavi pepelom te plakati i tugovati: "Teško tebi! Teško tebi, veliki grade! Svi brodovlasnici obogatili su se njegovim raskošnim bogatstvom, a opustošen je u tren oka!'
20 Ali ti se, nebo, veseli zbog njezine sudbine! Veselite se svi sveti, svi apostoli i proroci jer je Bog osudivši nju vama dosudio pravdu!'
21 Snažni anđeo uzme zatim kamen velik poput mlinskoga i baci ga u more govoreći: 'Ovako će silovito biti strmoglavljen veliki grad Babilon i zauvijek će nestati.'
22 Nikad se više u tebi neće čuti glazba - zvuci citre, pjevači, svirka i trublje. Neće više biti vještog obrtnika. Neće se čuti klopot žrvnja što melje žito.
23 Svjetlo svjetiljke neće više u tebi sjati. Neće se čuti glasovi zaručnika i zaručnice. Jer tvoji su trgovci bili svjetski velikaši. Svojim si vračanjem zaveo sve narode.
24 U tebi se stekla prolivena krv proroka i svetaca i svega poubijanoga Božjeg naroda na Zemlji.'

The Fall of Babylon the Great
18 After(A) these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, (B)and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried [a]mightily with a loud voice, saying, (C)“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and (D)has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and (E)a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations (F)have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, (G)and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the [b]abundance of her luxury.”
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, (H)“Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 (I)For her sins [c]have reached to heaven, and (J)God has remembered her iniquities. 6 (K)Render to her just as she rendered [d]to you, and repay her double according to her works; (L)in the cup which she has mixed, (M)mix double for her. 7 (N)In the measure that she glorified herself and lived [e]luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as (O)queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ 8 Therefore her plagues will come (P)in one day—death and mourning and famine. And (Q)she will be utterly burned with fire, (R)for strong is the Lord God who [f]judges her.
The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall
9 (S)“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her (T)will weep and lament for her, (U)when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, (V)‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! (W)For in one hour your judgment has come.’
11 “And (X)the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 (Y)merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and (Z)souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have [g]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, (AA)that great city (AB)that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 (AC)For in one hour such great riches [h]came to nothing.’ (AD)Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 (AE)and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, (AF)‘What is like this great city?’
19 (AG)“They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! (AH)For in one hour she [i]is made desolate.’
20 (AI)“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you [j]holy apostles and prophets, for (AJ)God has avenged you on her!”
Finality of Babylon’s Fall
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, (AK)“Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and (AL)shall not be found anymore. 22 (AM)The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore. 23 (AN)The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, (AO)and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For (AP)your merchants were the great men of the earth, (AQ)for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 And (AR)in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who (AS)were slain on the earth.”

The Fall of Babylon
18 After this I saw (A)another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and (B)the earth was made bright with his glory. 2 And he called out with a mighty voice,
(C)“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become (D)a dwelling place for demons,
a haunt (E)for every unclean spirit,
a haunt (F)for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
3 For all nations have drunk[a]
(G)the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,
and (H)the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,
and (I)the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.”
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,
(J)“Come out of her, my people,
lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;
5 for (K)her sins are heaped high as heaven,
and (L)God has remembered her iniquities.
6 (M)Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,
and repay her (N)double for her deeds;
mix a double portion for her (O)in the cup she mixed.
7 (P)As she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,
since in her heart she says,
(Q)‘I sit as a queen,
I am no widow,
and mourning I shall never see.’
8 For this reason her plagues will come (R)in a single day,
death and mourning and famine,
and (S)she will be burned up with fire;
for (T)mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
9 And (U)the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, (V)will weep and wail over her (W)when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 (X)They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,
“Alas! Alas! (Y)You great city,
you mighty city, Babylon!
For (Z)in a single hour your judgment has come.”
11 And (AA)the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.[b]
14 “The fruit for which your soul longed
has gone from you,
and all your delicacies and your splendors
are lost to you,
never to be found again!”
15 (AB)The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, (AC)will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,
16 “Alas, alas, for the great city
(AD)that was clothed in fine linen,
in purple and scarlet,
adorned with gold,
with jewels, and with pearls!
17 For (AE)in a single hour all this wealth (AF)has been laid waste.”
And (AG)all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18 and (AH)cried out (AI)as they saw the smoke of her burning,
(AJ)“What city was like the great city?”

grew rich by her wealth!
