La idolatría de Efraín condenada
13 Cuando Efraín hablaba, reinaba el temor(A);
Se había exaltado a sí mismo en Israel(B),
Pero por causa de Baal pecó y murió(C).
2 Y ahora continúan pecando:
Se hacen imágenes fundidas(D),
Ídolos, con su plata, conforme a su pericia(E),
Todo ello obra de artífices(F).
De ellos dicen: «Que los hombres que sacrifican, besen los becerros(G)».
3 Por tanto, serán como niebla de la mañana,
Y como rocío que pronto desaparece(H),
Como paja aventada de la era(I),
Y como humo de chimenea(J).
4 ¶Pero Yo he sido el Señor tu Dios
Desde la tierra de Egipto(K);
No reconocerás a otro dios fuera de Mí(L),
Pues no hay más salvador que Yo(M).
5 Yo te cuidé en el desierto(N),
En tierra muy árida(O).
6 Cuando comían sus pastos, se saciaron(P),
Y al estar saciados, se ensoberbeció su corazón(Q);
Por tanto, se olvidaron de Mí(R).
7 Seré, pues, para ellos como león(S);
Como leopardo junto al camino acecharé(T).
8 Como osa privada de sus cachorros(U), me enfrentaré a ellos
Y les desgarraré el pecho,
Allí los devoraré como leona(V),
Como los desgarraría una bestia salvaje.
9 ¶Tu destrucción vendrá, oh Israel,
Porque estás contra Mí(W), contra tu ayuda(X).
10 ¿Dónde está ahora tu rey(Y)
Para que te salve en todas tus ciudades,
Y tus jueces de quienes me decías(Z):
«Dame rey y príncipes»?
11 En Mi ira te di un rey(AA),
Y te lo quité en Mi furor(AB).
12 ¶Atada está la iniquidad de Efraín,
Guardado su pecado(AC).
13 Dolores de parto vienen sobre él(AD);
No es un hijo sensato(AE),
Porque no es hora de que se demore en abrirse la matriz(AF).
14 ¿Los libraré del poder(AG) del Seol[a]?
¿Los redimiré de la muerte?
¿Dónde están, oh muerte, tus espinas?
¿Dónde está, oh Seol, tu aguijón(AH)?
La compasión estará oculta a Mi vista(AI).
15 ¶Aunque él florezca entre los juncos(AJ),
Vendrá el viento solano[b](AK),
Viento del Señor que sube del desierto,
Su fuente se secará(AL)
Y su manantial se agotará;
Despojará su tesoro de todos los objetos preciosos(AM).
16 [c]Samaria será considerada culpable(AN),
Porque se rebeló contra su Dios(AO).
Caerán a espada(AP);
Serán estrellados sus niños(AQ),
Y abiertos los vientres de sus mujeres encinta(AR).

13 When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
4 Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:
8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
9 O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.
10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?
11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.
12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.
13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

13 Cuando Efraín hablaba, hubo temor; fue exaltado en Israel; mas pecó en Baal, y murió. 2 Y ahora añadieron a su pecado, y de su plata se han hecho según su entendimiento imágenes de fundición, ídolos, toda obra de artífices, acerca de los cuales dicen a los hombres que sacrifican, que besen los becerros. 3 Por tanto, serán como la niebla de la mañana, y como el rocío de la madrugada que se pasa; como el tamo que la tempestad arroja de la era, y como el humo que sale de la chimenea.
4 Mas yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto; no conocerás, pues, otro dios fuera de mí, ni otro salvador sino a mí. 5 Yo te conocí en el desierto,(A) en tierra seca. 6 En sus pastos se saciaron, y repletos, se ensoberbeció su corazón; por esta causa se olvidaron de mí. 7 Por tanto, yo seré para ellos como león; como un leopardo en el camino los acecharé. 8 Como osa que ha perdido los hijos los encontraré, y desgarraré las fibras de su corazón, y allí los devoraré como león; fiera del campo los despedazará.
9 Te perdiste, oh Israel, mas en mí está tu ayuda. 10 ¿Dónde está tu rey, para que te guarde con todas tus ciudades; y tus jueces, de los cuales dijiste: Dame rey y príncipes?(B) 11 Te di rey en mi furor,(C) y te lo quité en mi ira.(D)
12 Atada está la maldad de Efraín; su pecado está guardado. 13 Dolores de mujer que da a luz le vendrán; es un hijo no sabio, porque ya hace tiempo que no debiera detenerse al punto mismo de nacer.
14 De la mano del Seol los redimiré, los libraré de la muerte. Oh muerte, yo seré tu muerte; y seré tu destrucción, oh Seol;(E) la compasión será escondida de mi vista.
15 Aunque él fructifique entre los hermanos, vendrá el solano, viento de Jehová; se levantará desde el desierto, y se secará su manantial, y se agotará su fuente; él saqueará el tesoro de todas sus preciosas alhajas. 16 Samaria será asolada, porque se rebeló contra su Dios; caerán a espada; sus niños serán estrellados, y sus mujeres encintas serán abiertas.

The Lord’s Anger Against Israel
13 When Ephraim spoke, people trembled;(A)
he was exalted(B) in Israel.
But he became guilty of Baal worship(C) and died.
2 Now they sin more and more;
they make(D) idols for themselves from their silver,(E)
cleverly fashioned images,
all of them the work of craftsmen.(F)
It is said of these people,
“They offer human sacrifices!
They kiss[a](G) calf-idols!(H)”
3 Therefore they will be like the morning mist,
like the early dew that disappears,(I)
like chaff(J) swirling from a threshing floor,(K)
like smoke(L) escaping through a window.
4 “But I have been the Lord your God
ever since you came out of Egypt.(M)
You shall acknowledge(N) no God but me,(O)
no Savior(P) except me.
5 I cared for you in the wilderness,(Q)
in the land of burning heat.
6 When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud;(R)
then they forgot(S) me.(T)
7 So I will be like a lion(U) to them,
like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
8 Like a bear robbed of her cubs,(V)
I will attack them and rip them open;
like a lion(W) I will devour them—
a wild animal will tear them apart.(X)
9 “You are destroyed, Israel,
because you are against me,(Y) against your helper.(Z)
10 Where is your king,(AA) that he may save you?
Where are your rulers in all your towns,
of whom you said,
‘Give me a king and princes’?(AB)
11 So in my anger I gave you a king,(AC)
and in my wrath I took him away.(AD)
12 The guilt of Ephraim is stored up,
his sins are kept on record.(AE)
13 Pains as of a woman in childbirth(AF) come to him,
but he is a child without wisdom;
when the time(AG) arrives,
he doesn’t have the sense to come out of the womb.(AH)
14 “I will deliver this people from the power of the grave;(AI)
I will redeem them from death.(AJ)
Where, O death, are your plagues?
Where, O grave, is your destruction?(AK)
“I will have no compassion,
15 even though he thrives(AL) among his brothers.
An east wind(AM) from the Lord will come,
blowing in from the desert;
his spring will fail
and his well dry up.(AN)
His storehouse will be plundered(AO)
of all its treasures.
16 The people of Samaria(AP) must bear their guilt,(AQ)
because they have rebelled(AR) against their God.
They will fall by the sword;(AS)
their little ones will be dashed(AT) to the ground,
their pregnant women(AU) ripped open.”[b]
