Oseas 11
Traducción en lenguaje actual
El amor de Dios por su pueblo
11 Dios le dijo a su pueblo:
«Israel,
cuando eras un país joven,
yo te demostré mi amor por ti.
Yo te saqué de Egipto
porque eres un hijo para mí.
2 Pero mientras más te llamaba,
más te alejabas de mí,
y les presentabas ofrendas
a tus ídolos y dioses falsos.
3-4 »Israel,
por el gran amor que te tengo
te llevé de la mano como a un niño,
te enseñé a caminar,
te di de comer
y te ayudé en tus problemas;
pero no te diste cuenta
de todos estos cuidados.
5 »No quisiste volver a mí;
no quisiste dejar tu mala conducta.
Por eso te castigaré
y volverás a ser esclavo en Egipto;
por eso Asiria te dominará.
6 Habrá guerra en tus ciudades,
tus enemigos matarán a toda tu gente,
y echarán a perder tus planes.
7 »Pueblo mío, ya lo has decidido;
me abandonaste por otros dioses.
Los crees más fuertes que yo,
pero no podrán ayudarte.
8 »Israelitas,
¡yo no puedo abandonarlos!
¡No sería capaz de hacerlo!
¡No podría destruirlos,
como destruí a la gente malvada
de Admá y Seboím!
¡Mi gran amor por ustedes
no me lo permite!
9 »No volveré a enojarme con ustedes;
ni volveré a destruirlos,
pues no soy un simple hombre;
¡yo soy Dios,
y habito en medio de mi pueblo!
10-11 »Yo rugiré como un león,
y ustedes me obedecerán.
Desde Egipto y desde Asiria,
sus descendientes volverán a mí;
vendrán temblando de miedo,
como las aves que vienen del oeste,
y yo los llevaré a sus casas
para que vuelvan a habitarlas.
Yo soy el Dios de Israel,
y les juro que así será.
Los pecados del pueblo de Dios
12 »Ustedes los israelitas
me mienten todo el tiempo;
siempre me están engañando.
Y ustedes los de Judá me traicionan,
pues adoran a dioses falsos.

God’s Love for Israel
11 “When Israel was a child,(A) I loved(B) him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.(C)
2 But the more they were called,
the more they went away from me.[a](D)
They sacrificed to the Baals(E)
and they burned incense to images.(F)
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
taking them by the arms;(G)
but they did not realize
it was I who healed(H) them.
4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love.(I)
To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed(J) them.(K)
5 “Will they not return to Egypt(L)
and will not Assyria(M) rule over them
because they refuse to repent?(N)
6 A sword(O) will flash in their cities;
it will devour(P) their false prophets
and put an end to their plans.
7 My people are determined to turn(Q) from me.(R)
Even though they call me God Most High,
I will by no means exalt them.
8 “How can I give you up,(S) Ephraim?(T)
How can I hand you over, Israel?
How can I treat you like Admah?
How can I make you like Zeboyim?(U)
My heart is changed within me;
all my compassion(V) is aroused.(W)
9 I will not carry out my fierce anger,(X)
nor will I devastate(Y) Ephraim again.
For I am God, and not a man(Z)—
the Holy One(AA) among you.
I will not come against their cities.
10 They will follow the Lord;
he will roar(AB) like a lion.(AC)
When he roars,
his children will come trembling(AD) from the west.(AE)
11 They will come from Egypt,
trembling like sparrows,
from Assyria,(AF) fluttering like doves.(AG)
I will settle them in their homes,”(AH)
declares the Lord.

God’s Compassion Despite Israel’s Ingratitude
11 When Israel was a child, I loved him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.(A)
2 The more I[a] called them,
the more they went from me;[b]
they kept sacrificing to the Baals
and offering incense to idols.(B)
3 Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk;
I took them up in my[c] arms,
but they did not know that I healed them.(C)
4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
with bands of love.
I was to them like those
who lift infants to their cheeks.[d]
I bent down to them and fed them.(D)
5 They shall return to the land of Egypt,
and Assyria shall be their king,
because they have refused to return to me.(E)
6 The sword rages in their cities;
it consumes their oracle priests
and devours because of their schemes.(F)
7 My people are bent on turning away from me.
To the Most High they call,
but he does not raise them up at all.[e](G)
8 How can I give you up, Ephraim?
How can I hand you over, O Israel?
How can I make you like Admah?
How can I treat you like Zeboiim?
My heart recoils within me;
my compassion grows warm and tender.(H)
9 I will not execute my fierce anger;
I will not again destroy Ephraim,
for I am God and no mortal,
the Holy One in your midst,
and I will not come in wrath.[f](I)
10 They shall go after the Lord,
who roars like a lion;
when he roars,
his children shall come trembling from the west.(J)
11 They shall come trembling like birds from Egypt
and like doves from the land of Assyria,
and I will return them to their homes, says the Lord.(K)
