El amor de Dios por su pueblo
11 Cuando Israel era niño, yo lo amé,
y de Egipto(A) llamé a mi hijo(B).
2 Cuanto más los llamaban los profetas(C),
tanto más se alejaban de ellos[a];
seguían sacrificando a los Baales(D)
y quemando incienso a los ídolos(E).
3 Sin embargo yo enseñé a andar a Efraín,
yo lo llevé en mis[b] brazos(F);
pero ellos no comprendieron que yo los sanaba(G).
4 Con cuerdas humanas los conduje[c], con lazos de amor(H),
y fui para ellos como quien alza el yugo de sobre sus quijadas[d](I);
me incliné y les di de comer(J).
5 No volverán[e] a la tierra de Egipto,
sino que Asiria será su rey,
porque rehusaron volver a mí(K).
6 La espada girará contra sus ciudades(L),
destruirá sus cerrojos(M)
y los consumirá por causa de sus intrigas(N).
7 Pues mi pueblo se mantiene infiel contra mí(O);
aunque ellos[f] lo llaman para que se vuelva al Altísimo[g],
ninguno le exalta.
8 ¿Cómo podré abandonarte, Efraín(P)?
¿Cómo podré entregarte, Israel?
¿Cómo podré yo hacerte[h] como a Adma(Q)?
¿Cómo podré tratarte como a Zeboim(R)?
Mi corazón se conmueve dentro de mí,
se enciende toda mi compasión[i].
9 No ejecutaré el furor de mi ira(S);
no volveré a destruir(T) a Efraín.
Porque yo soy Dios y no hombre(U), el Santo en medio de ti(V),
y no vendré con furor[j].
10 En pos del Señor caminarán(W),
Él rugirá como un león(X);
ciertamente Él rugirá,
y sus hijos vendrán temblando desde el occidente(Y).
11 De Egipto(Z) vendrán temblando como aves,
y de la tierra de Asiria(AA) como palomas(AB),
y yo los estableceré en sus casas —declara el Señor(AC).
12 [k]Efraín me rodea de mentiras(AD),
y de engaño la casa de Israel;
Judá todavía anda lejos de Dios,
y del Santo, que es fiel.

Dios se compadece de su pueblo obstinado
11 Cuando Israel era muchacho, yo lo amé, y de Egipto llamé a mi hijo.(A) 2 Cuanto más yo los llamaba, tanto más se alejaban de mí; a los baales sacrificaban, y a los ídolos ofrecían sahumerios.
3 Yo con todo eso enseñaba a andar al mismo Efraín, tomándole de los brazos; y no conoció que yo le cuidaba. 4 Con cuerdas humanas los atraje, con cuerdas de amor; y fui para ellos como los que alzan el yugo de sobre su cerviz, y puse delante de ellos la comida.
5 No volverá a tierra de Egipto, sino que el asirio mismo será su rey, porque no se quisieron convertir. 6 Caerá espada sobre sus ciudades, y consumirá sus aldeas; las consumirá a causa de sus propios consejos. 7 Entre tanto, mi pueblo está adherido a la rebelión contra mí; aunque me llaman el Altísimo, ninguno absolutamente me quiere enaltecer.
8 ¿Cómo podré abandonarte, oh Efraín? ¿Te entregaré yo, Israel? ¿Cómo podré yo hacerte como Adma, o ponerte como a Zeboim?(B) Mi corazón se conmueve dentro de mí, se inflama toda mi compasión. 9 No ejecutaré el ardor de mi ira, ni volveré para destruir a Efraín; porque Dios soy, y no hombre, el Santo en medio de ti; y no entraré en la ciudad.
10 En pos de Jehová caminarán; él rugirá como león; rugirá, y los hijos vendrán temblando desde el occidente. 11 Como ave acudirán velozmente de Egipto, y de la tierra de Asiria como paloma; y los haré habitar en sus casas, dice Jehová. 12 Me rodeó Efraín de mentira, y la casa de Israel de engaño. Judá aún gobierna con Dios, y es fiel con los santos.

Dios ama a su pueblo rebelde
11 »Cuando el pueblo de Israel era niño, yo lo amaba;
a él, que era mi hijo, lo llamé de Egipto.
2 Pero cuanto más lo llamaba,
más se apartaba de mí.
Mi pueblo ofrecía sacrificios a los dioses falsos
y quemaba incienso a los ídolos.
3 Con todo, yo guié al pueblo de Efraín
y lo enseñé a caminar;
pero ellos no comprendieron que era yo quien los cuidaba.
4 Con lazos de ternura, con cuerdas de amor,
los atraje hacia mí;
los acerqué a mis mejillas
como si fueran niños de pecho;
me incliné a ellos para darles de comer,
5 pero ellos no quisieron volverse a mí.
Por eso tendrán que regresar a Egipto,
y Asiria reinará sobre ellos.
6 La espada caerá sobre sus ciudades
y acabará con sus fortalezas,
destruyéndolos a causa de los planes que hacen.
7 Mi pueblo persiste en estar alejado de mí;
gritan hacia lo alto, pero nadie los ayuda.
8 »¿Cómo podré dejarte, Efraín?
¿Cómo podré abandonarte, Israel?
¿Podré destruirte como destruí la ciudad de Admá,
o hacer contigo lo mismo que hice con Seboím?
¡Mi corazón está conmovido,
lleno de compasión por ti!
9 No actuaré según el ardor de mi ira:
no volveré a destruir a Efraín,
porque yo soy Dios, no hombre.
Yo soy el Santo, que estoy en medio de ti,
y no he venido a destruirte.»
10 Ellos seguirán al Señor,
y él rugirá como un león.
Rugirá, y los suyos
vendrán temblando de occidente.
11 «Como aves, vendrán temblando de Egipto;
vendrán de Asiria, como palomas;
y haré que habiten de nuevo en sus casas.
Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
La maldad del pueblo de Dios
12 (12.1) »Efraín me ha rodeado de mentiras;
me ha rodeado de engaños el pueblo de Israel.
Judá se ha separado de Dios,
y ahora es fiel a los ídolos.

11 When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
2 As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
3 I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
4 I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
5 He shall not return into the land of Egypt, and the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
6 And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
7 And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.
8 How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.
9 I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
10 They shall walk after the Lord: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.
11 They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the Lord.
12 Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

God’s Love for Israel
11 “When Israel was a child,(A) I loved(B) him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.(C)
2 But the more they were called,
the more they went away from me.[a](D)
They sacrificed to the Baals(E)
and they burned incense to images.(F)
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
taking them by the arms;(G)
but they did not realize
it was I who healed(H) them.
4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love.(I)
To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed(J) them.(K)
5 “Will they not return to Egypt(L)
and will not Assyria(M) rule over them
because they refuse to repent?(N)
6 A sword(O) will flash in their cities;
it will devour(P) their false prophets
and put an end to their plans.
7 My people are determined to turn(Q) from me.(R)
Even though they call me God Most High,
I will by no means exalt them.
8 “How can I give you up,(S) Ephraim?(T)
How can I hand you over, Israel?
How can I treat you like Admah?
How can I make you like Zeboyim?(U)
My heart is changed within me;
all my compassion(V) is aroused.(W)
9 I will not carry out my fierce anger,(X)
nor will I devastate(Y) Ephraim again.
For I am God, and not a man(Z)—
the Holy One(AA) among you.
I will not come against their cities.
10 They will follow the Lord;
he will roar(AB) like a lion.(AC)
When he roars,
his children will come trembling(AD) from the west.(AE)
11 They will come from Egypt,
trembling like sparrows,
from Assyria,(AF) fluttering like doves.(AG)
I will settle them in their homes,”(AH)
declares the Lord.
