7 Min son, tag vara på mina ord, och göm mina bud inom dig.
2 Håll mina bud, så får du leva, och bevara min undervisning såsom din ögonsten.
3 Bind dem vid dina fingrar, skriv dem på ditt hjärtas tavla.
4 Säg till visheten: »Du är min syster», och kalla förståndet din förtrogna,
5 så att de bevara dig för främmande kvinnor, för din nästas hustru, som talar hala ord.
6 Ty ut genom fönstret i mitt hus, fram genom gallret där blickade jag;
7 då såg jag bland de fåkunniga, jag blev varse bland de unga en yngling utan förstånd.
8 Han gick fram på gatan invid hörnet där hon bodde, på vägen till hennes hus skred han fram,
9 skymningen, på aftonen av dagen, nattens dunkel, när mörker rådde
10 Se, då kom där en kvinna honom till mötes; hennes dräkt var en skökas, och hennes hjärta illfundigt.
11 Yster och lättsinnig var hon, hennes fötter hade ingen ro i hennes hus.
12 Än var hon på gatan, än var hon på torgen vid vart gathörn stod hon på lur.
13 Hon tog nu honom fatt och kysste honom och sade till honom med fräckhet i sin uppsyn:
14 »Tackoffer har jag haft att frambära; i dag har jag fått infria mina löften.
15 Därför gick jag ut till att möta dig jag ville söka upp dig, och nu ha jag funnit dig.
16 Jag har bäddat min säng med sköna täcken, med brokigt linne från Egypten.
17 Jag har bestänkt min bädd med myrra, med aloe och med kanel.
18 Kom, låt oss förnöja oss med kärlek intill morgonen, och förlusta oss med varandra i älskog.
19 Ty min man är nu icke hemma han har rest en lång väg bort.
20 Sin penningpung tog han med sig; först vid fullmånstiden kommer han hem.»
21 Så förleder hon honom med allahanda fagert tal; genom sina läppars halhet förför hon honom.
22 Han följer efter henne med hast, lik oxen som går för att slaktas, och lik fången som föres bort till straffet för sin dårskap;
23 ja, han följer, till dess pilen genomborrar hans lever, lik fågeln som skyndar till snaran, utan att förstå att det gäller dess liv.
24 Så hören mig nu, I barn, och given akt på min muns tal.
25 Låt icke ditt hjärta vika av till hennes vägar, och förvilla dig ej in på hennes stigar.
26 Ty många som ligga slagna äro fällda av henne, och stor är hopen av dem hon har dräpt.
27 Genom hennes hus gå dödsrikets vägar, de som föra nedåt till dödens kamrar.

Bevara min undervisning som din ögonsten.
3 Bind fast dem vid dina fingrar
och skriv dem på ditt hjärtas tavla.
4 Säg till visheten: ”Du är min syster”,
och kalla insikten din närmaste.
5 De bevarar dig för den främmande kvinnan,
för henne som talar förföriska ord.
6 En gång tittade jag ut
genom fönstergallret i mitt hus,
7 och bland de okunniga såg jag
en yngling som saknade vett.
8 Han gick nära hennes gathörn,
i riktning mot hennes hus
9 i skymningen, mot kvällen,
när nattmörkret föll.
10 Ut kom då en kvinna för att möta honom,
klädd som en prostituerad, och med sluga avsikter,
11 rastlös och utmanande,
med fötter som ständigt vill ut hemifrån.
12 Än på gator, än på torg,
vid varje gathörn står hon på lur.
13 Hon grep tag i honom, kysste honom
och talade till honom med en fräck uppsyn:
14 ”Jag har gett ett gemenskapsoffer,
fullföljt mina löften idag.
15 Därför har jag gått ut för att möta dig,
jag har letat efter dig
och nu har jag hittat dig.
16 Min säng är bäddad med sköna täcken
av färgat linne från Egypten,
17 och jag har bestänkt min bädd
med myrra, aloe och kanel.
18 Kom, så njuter vi av kärlek ända till morgonen,
älskar tillsammans med vällust!
19 Min man är på resa och är inte hemma,
han har rest långt bort.
20 Han tog med sig pengarna,
och han kommer inte tillbaka förrän vid fullmånen.”
21 Hon förledde honom med sitt överflödande prat,
hon förförde honom med sina smickrande läppar.
22 Han följde genast efter henne,
liksom en oxe som går för att slaktas.
Han var som en hjort som fastnat i en fälla,[a]
23 tills en pil genomborrar hans lever,
som en fågel som skyndar till en snara
utan att veta att hans liv står på spel.
24 Lyssna nu till mig, barn,
ge akt på vad jag säger.
25 Låt dig inte dras in på hennes vägar,
förirra dig inte in på hennes stigar.
26 Många är de offer hon fått på fall,
otaliga har hon slaktat.
27 Från hennes hus går vägen till dödsriket,
den leder till dödens kamrar.

7 My son, ·remember what I say [guard my speech], and ·treasure [store/hide in you] my commands.
2 ·Obey [Guard] my commands, and you will live.
Guard my ·teachings [instructions] ·as you would your own [L like the apple of your] eyes.
3 ·Remind yourself of them [L Bind them on your fingers];
write them on your heart as if on a tablet.
4 ·Treat wisdom as a sister [L Say to Wisdom, “You are my sister”; 1:20–33; 8:1—9:6],
and ·make understanding your closest friend [L call Understanding “Friend”].
5 ·Wisdom and understanding [L She] will ·keep you away [guard you] from ·adultery [L the strange woman],
away from the ·unfaithful wife [L foreign woman] and her ·pleasing [flattering] words.
6 Once while I was at the window of my house

24 Now, my sons, listen to me;

Warning Against the Adulterous Woman
7 My son,(A) keep my words
and store up my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and you will live;(B)
guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.(C)
4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and to insight, “You are my relative.”
5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words.(D)
6 At the window of my house
I looked down through the lattice.
7 I saw among the simple,
I noticed among the young men,
a youth who had no sense.(E)
8 He was going down the street near her corner,
walking along in the direction of her house
9 at twilight,(F) as the day was fading,
as the dark of night set in.
10 Then out came a woman to meet him,
dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
11 (She is unruly(G) and defiant,
her feet never stay at home;
12 now in the street, now in the squares,
at every corner she lurks.)(H)
13 She took hold of him(I) and kissed him
and with a brazen face she said:(J)
14 “Today I fulfilled my vows,
and I have food from my fellowship offering(K) at home.
15 So I came out to meet you;
I looked for you and have found you!
16 I have covered my bed
with colored linens from Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed(L)
with myrrh,(M) aloes and cinnamon.
18 Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning;
let’s enjoy ourselves with love!(N)
19 My husband is not at home;
he has gone on a long journey.
20 He took his purse filled with money
and will not be home till full moon.”
21 With persuasive words she led him astray;
she seduced him with her smooth talk.(O)
22 All at once he followed her
like an ox going to the slaughter,
like a deer[a] stepping into a noose[b](P)
23 till an arrow pierces(Q) his liver,
like a bird darting into a snare,
little knowing it will cost him his life.(R)
