Varning för lösaktighet
5 Min son, ge akt på min vishet, vänd ditt öra till mitt förstånd,
2 så att du tar vara på goda råd
och dina läppar bevarar kunskapen.
3 Av honung dryper en trolös kvinnas läppar,
halare än olja är hennes mun.
4 Men till sist blir hon bitter som malört,
skarp som ett tveeggat svärd.
5 Hennes fötter styr ner mot döden,
till dödsriket drar hennes steg.
6 På livets väg tänker hon inte,
hennes stigar leder vilse utan att hon märker det.
7 Lyssna nu på mig, ni barn,
vik ej bort från min muns tal.
8 Låt din väg vara fjärran ifrån henne,
kom inte nära dörren till hennes hus.
9 Ge inte din kraft åt andra,
dina år åt en grym herre,
10 om inte främlingar skall mätta sig av din rikedom
och ditt arbetes frukt hamna i en annans hus,
11 så att du själv till slut måste sucka,
när din kropp och ditt hull tynar bort,
12 och säga: "Hur kunde jag hata förmaning,
hur kunde mitt hjärta förakta tillrättavisning!
13 Varför lyssnade jag inte till mina lärares röst,
varför vände jag inte mitt öra till dem som undervisade mig?
14 Hur nära var jag inte att drabbas av allt ont
mitt i den församlade menigheten."
15 Drick vatten ur din egen brunn,
det vatten som rinner ur din egen källa.
16 Skall dina källor strömma ut på gatan,
dina vattenbäckar på torgen?
17 Nej, det är dig de tillhör
och ingen främmande jämte dig.
18 Må din brunn vara välsignad,
och gläd dig över din ungdoms hustru,
19 den älskliga hinden, den behagfulla gasellen.
Må hennes barm alltid förnöja dig,
hennes kärlek ständigt berusa dig.
20 Min son, varför skall du berusas av en främmande kvinna
och sluta en annans hustru i din famn?
21 Inför Herrens ögon är en människas vägar uppenbara,
han ger akt på alla hennes steg.
22 Den ogudaktige fångas av sina egna missgärningar
och fastnar i sin egen synds snaror.
23 Han måste dö i brist på förmaning,
genom sin stora dårskap går han vilse.

5 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

5 My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
[a]Lend your ear to my understanding,
2 That you may [b]preserve discretion,
And your lips (A)may keep knowledge.
3 (B)For the lips of [c]an immoral woman drip honey,
And her mouth is (C)smoother than oil;
4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death,
(D)Her steps lay hold of [d]hell.
6 Lest you ponder her path of life—
Her ways are unstable;
You do not know them.
7 Therefore hear me now, my children,
And do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove your way far from her,
And do not go near the door of her house,
9 Lest you give your [e]honor to others,
And your years to the cruel one;
10 Lest aliens be filled with your [f]wealth,
And your labors go to the house of a foreigner;

Warning Against Adultery
5 (A)My son, be attentive to my wisdom;
(B)incline your ear to my understanding,
2 that you may keep (C)discretion,
and your lips may (D)guard knowledge.
3 For the lips of (E)a forbidden[a] woman drip honey,
and her speech[b] is (F)smoother than oil,
4 but in the end she is (G)bitter as (H)wormwood,
(I)sharp as (J)a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet (K)go down to death;
her steps follow the path to[c] Sheol;
6 she (L)does not ponder the path of life;
her ways wander, and she does not know it.
7 And (M)now, O sons, listen to me,
and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Keep your way far from her,
and do not go near the door of her house,
9 lest you give your honor to others
and your years to the merciless,
10 lest strangers take their fill of your strength,
