Ordspråk av Salomo samlade av Hiskias män (Kap 25-29)
25 Dessa ordspråk är också av Salomo, samlade av Hiskias, Juda kungs, män.
2 Det är Guds ära att dölja en sak
och kungars ära att utforska den.
3 Himlens höjd och jordens djup
och kungars hjärtan kan ingen utrannsaka.
4 Tag bort slagget från silvret,
så får guldsmeden fram en klenod av det.
5 Tag de ogudaktiga ur kungens tjänst,
så blir hans tron befäst genom rättfärdighet.
6 Förhäv dig inte inför kungen
och ställ dig inte på de storas plats.
7 Ty det är bättre att man säger till dig: "Stig hit upp",
än att du flyttas ner för en förnämare man,
som dina ögon har sett.
8 Var inte för snabb att starta en rättstvist,
för vad tänker du göra längre fram,
om din motpart skämmer ut dig?
9 Lägg fram din egen sak mot din motpart,
men röj inte någon annans hemlighet,
10 så att inte någon som hör det drar skam över dig
och du för all framtid får dåligt rykte.
11 Som guldäpplen i silverinfattning
är ord talade i rätt tid.
12 Som en ring av guld och ett dyrbart smycke
är en vis förmanare för ett lyssnande öra.
13 Som snöns svalka på en skördedag
är en pålitlig budbärare för den som sänt honom.
Sin herres själ vederkvicker han.
14 Som moln och vind utan regn
är den som skryter med gåvor han inte ger.
15 Genom tålamod kan furstar övertalas,
en mild tunga kan krossa ben.
16 Om du finner honung, ät inte för mycket,
så att du blir övermätt och kräks.
17 Låt inte din fot komma för ofta i din väns hus,
så att han tröttnar på dig och får motvilja mot dig.
18 En stridshammare, ett svärd och en skarp pil
är den som vittnar falskt mot sin nästa.
19 Som en ruttnande tand och en slintande fot
är förtroende för en svekfull på nödens dag.
20 Att sjunga visor för ett sorgset hjärta
är som att klä av sig en vinterdag
eller som syra på soda.
21 Om din fiende är hungrig, ge honom att äta,
om han är törstig, ge honom att dricka.
22 Då samlar du glödande kol på hans huvud,
och Herren skall belöna dig.
23 Nordanvind för med sig regn,
tasslande tunga sura miner.
24 Bättre bo i en vrå på taket
än dela huset med en grälsjuk kvinna.
25 Som friskt vatten för en törstig själ
är gott budskap från fjärran land.
26 Som en grumlad källa och en förorenad brunn
är en rättfärdig som ger efter för en ogudaktig.
27 Att äta för mycket honung är inte gott,
att söka sin egen ära är inte ärofullt.
28 Som en nerbruten stad utan murar
är den man som inte kan styra sitt sinne.

2 La gloria de Dios es ocultar un asunto
y la gloria de los reyes es investigarlo.
3 Tan impenetrable es el corazón de los reyes
como alto es el cielo y profunda la tierra.
4 Quita la escoria de la plata
y de allí saldrá material para[a] el orfebre;
5 quita de la presencia del rey a oficiales malvados
y el rey afirmará su trono en la justicia.
6 No te des importancia en presencia del rey
ni reclames un lugar entre la gente importante;
7 vale más que el rey te diga: «Sube acá»
y no que te humille ante gente importante.
Lo que has visto con tus ojos
8 no lo lleves[b] de inmediato al tribunal,
pues ¿qué harás si a fin de cuentas
tu prójimo te pone en vergüenza?
9 Defiende tu causa contra tu prójimo,
pero no traiciones la confianza de nadie,
10 no sea que te avergüence el que te oiga
y ya no puedas quitarte la infamia.
11 Como manzanas de oro con incrustaciones de plata
son las palabras dichas a tiempo.
12 Como anillo o collar de oro fino
son los regaños del sabio en oídos atentos.
13 Como frescura de nieve en día de la cosecha
es el enviado confiable para quien lo envía,
pues infunde nuevo ánimo en sus amos.
14 Nubes y viento, y nada de lluvia,
es quien presume de dar y nunca da nada.
15 Con paciencia se convence al gobernante.
¡La lengua amable quebranta hasta los huesos!
16 Si encuentras miel, no te empalagues;
la mucha miel provoca náuseas.
17 No frecuentes la casa de tu amigo;
no sea que lo fastidies y llegue a aborrecerte.
18 Un mazo, una espada, una aguda saeta,
eso es el testigo falso que declara contra su amigo.
19 Confiar en gente desleal en momentos de angustia
es como tener un diente roto o una pierna vacilante.
20 Dedicarle canciones al corazón afligido
es como echarle vinagre a una herida
o como andar desabrigado en un día de frío.
21 Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer;
si tiene sed, dale de beber.
22 Actuando así, harás que se avergüence de su conducta,[c]
y el Señor te lo recompensará.
23 Con el viento del norte vienen las lluvias;
con la lengua viperina, las malas caras.
24 Más vale habitar en un rincón de la azotea
que compartir el techo con mujer pendenciera.
25 Como el agua fresca a la garganta reseca
son las buenas noticias desde lejanas tierras.
26 Manantial turbio, contaminado pozo,
es el justo que flaquea ante el impío.
27 No hace bien comer mucha miel
ni es honroso buscar la propia gloria.
28 Como ciudad sin defensa y sin murallas
es quien no sabe dominarse.

25 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
