17 Bättre är ett torrt brödstycke med ro än ett hus fullt av högtidsmat med kiv.
2 En förståndig tjänare får råda över en vanartig son, och bland bröderna får han skifta arv.
3 Degeln prövar silver och smältugnen guld, så prövar HERREN hjärtan.
4 En ond människa aktar på ondskefulla läppar, falskheten lyssnar till fördärvliga tungor.
5 Den som bespottar den fattige smädar hans skapare; den som gläder sig åt andras ofärd bliver icke ostraffad.
6 De gamlas krona äro barnbarn, och barnens ära äro deras fäder.
7 Stortaliga läppar hövas icke dåren, mycket mindre lögnaktiga läppar en furste.
8 En gåva är en lyckosten i dens ögon, som ger den; vart den än kommer bereder den framgång.
9 Den som skyler vad som är brutet, han vill främja kärlek, men den som river upp gammalt, han gör vänner oense.
10 En förebråelse verkar mer på den förståndige än hundra slag på dåren.
11 Upprorsmakaren vill allenast vad ont är, men en budbärare utan förbarmande skall sändas mot honom.
12 Bättre är att möta en björninna från vilken man har tagit ungarna, än att möta en dåre i hans oförnuft.
13 Den som vedergäller gott med ont, från hans hus skall olyckan icke vika.
14 Att begynna träta är att släppa ett vattenflöde löst; håll därför inne, förrän kivet har brutit ut.
15 Den som friar den skyldige och den som fäller den oskyldige, de äro båda en styggelse för HERREN.
16 Vartill gagna väl penningar i dårens hand? Han kunde köpa sig vishet, men han saknar förstånd.
17 En väns kärlek består alltid. och en broder födes till hjälp i nöden.
18 En människa utan förstånd är den som giver handslag, den som går i borgen för sin nästa.
19 Den som älskar split, han älskar överträdelse; Men som bygger sin dörr hög, han far efter fall.
20 Den som har ett vrångt hjärta vinner ingen framgång, och den som har en förvänd tunga, han faller i olycka.
21 Den som har fött en dåraktig son får bedrövelse av honom, en dåres fader har ingen glädje.
22 Ett glatt hjärta är en god läkedom, men ett brutet mod tager märgen ur benen.
23 Den ogudaktige tager gärna skänker i lönndom, för att han skall vränga rättens vägar.
24 Den förståndige har sin blick på visheten, men dårens ögon äro vid jordens ända.
25 En dåraktig son är sin faders grämelse och en bitter sorg för henne som har fött honom.
26 Att pliktfälla jämväl den rättfärdige är icke tillbörligt; att slå ädla män strider mot rättvisan.
27 Den som har vett, han spar sina ord; och lugn till sinnes är en man med förstånd.
28 Om den oförnuftige tege, så aktades också han för vis; den som tillsluter sina läppar är förståndig.

2 Klok tjänare får råda över odåga till son,
och dela arvet med bröderna.
3 Degeln prövar silvret och ugnen guldet,
Herren prövar hjärtan.
4 En ond människa lyssnar till onda tungor,
en lögnare lånar sitt öra åt fördärvligt tal.
5 Den som hånar den fattige smädar hans skapare,
den som gläder sig åt andras olycka blir inte ostraffad.
6 Barnbarn är de gamlas krona,
barnens stolthet är deras fäder.
7 Stora ord passar ej dåren,
än mindre lögnaktigt tal en furste.
8 Mutan är som en lyckosten i givarens ögon,
vart han än vänder sig har han framgång.
9 Den som skyler synd främjar kärlek,
den som river upp en sak splittrar nära vänner.
10 En förebråelse tar mer på den förståndige
än hundra slag på dåren.
11 Upprorsmakaren vill blott ont,
en grym budbärare skall sändas mot honom.
12 Hellre möta en björn som mist sina ungar,
än en dåre i hans oförnuft.
13 Den som vedergäller gott med ont,
från hans hus skall olyckan inte vika.
14 Att börja ett gräl är att öppna en dammlucka,
ge därför efter innan striden bryter ut.
15 Den som frikänner en brottsling
och den som fördömer en rättfärdig
är båda styggelser för Herren.
16 Vad hjälper pengar i dårens hand,
kan han köpa vishet när han saknar förstånd?
17 En väns kärlek består alltid,
en broder föds för att hjälpa i nöd.
18 Utan förstånd är den som ger handslag
och går i borgen för sin nästa.
19 Den som älskar synd älskar strid,
den som gör sin port hög söker sin undergång.
20 Den som har ett falskt hjärta finner ingen lycka,
den som har en oärlig tunga faller i olycka.
21 Den som fått en odåga till son får bedrövelse,
en dåres far har ingen glädje.
22 Glatt hjärta ger god läkedom,
brutet mod suger märgen ur benen.
23 Den ogudaktige tar fram mutor ur sin ficka
för att vränga rättens vägar.
24 Den förståndige har sin blick på visheten,
dårens blick går till jordens ände.
25 En dåraktig son är sin fars grämelse
och bitter sorg för den mor som fött honom.
26 Att bötfälla den oskyldige är illa nog,
men att slå ädla män strider mot all rätt.

en förståndig man håller huvudet kallt.
28 Också en dåre räknas som vis när han tiger,
och förståndig när han tillsluter sina läppar.

17 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.
4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.
16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

than a house full of feasting, with strife.(A)
2 A prudent servant will rule over a disgraceful son
and will share the inheritance as one of the family.
4 A wicked person listens to deceitful lips;
a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.
5 Whoever mocks the poor(D) shows contempt for their Maker;(E)
whoever gloats over disaster(F) will not go unpunished.(G)
6 Children’s children(H) are a crown to the aged,
and parents are the pride of their children.
7 Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool—
how much worse lying lips to a ruler!(I)
8 A bribe is seen as a charm by the one who gives it;
they think success will come at every turn.(J)
9 Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,(K)
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.(L)
10 A rebuke impresses a discerning person
more than a hundred lashes a fool.
11 Evildoers foster rebellion against God;
the messenger of death will be sent against them.
12 Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs
than a fool bent on folly.(M)
14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.(P)
16 Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom,
when they are not able to understand it?(S)
17 A friend loves at all times,

18 One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge
and puts up security for a neighbor.(U)
