De troon in de hemel
4 Nadat ik dit gehoord en gezien had, zag ik een deur in de hemel openstaan en hoorde ik dezelfde luide stem. ‘Kom naar boven,’ zei Hij tegen mij, ‘dan zal Ik u laten zien wat hierna moet gebeuren.’ 2 Op hetzelfde moment kwam de Geest over mij. Ik zag een troon in de hemel staan en op die troon zat Iemand. 3 Hij schitterde als de zuiverste edelsteen, als diamant en sarder. Om de troon stond een regenboog die zo helder was als smaragd. 4 Rondom de troon stonden vierentwintig tronen en op elk van die tronen zat een ouderling met witte kleren aan en een gouden kroon op zijn hoofd. 5 Uit de troon kwamen bliksemschichten en donderslagen en allerlei andere geluiden. Vlak voor de troon stonden zeven brandende fakkels, dat zijn de zeven Geesten van God. 6 Er lag voor de troon ook iets dat leek op een kristalheldere, spiegelgladde zee. Rondom de troon stonden vier levende wezens, met van voren en van achteren overal ogen. 7 Het eerste van die wezens leek op een leeuw, het tweede op een jonge stier, het derde had een mensengezicht en het vierde leek op een vliegende arend. 8 Elk van de vier wezens had zes vleugels. Zij hadden rondom en van binnen overal ogen. Zonder ophouden zeiden zij: ‘Heilig, heilig, heilig is de Here, de Almachtige God, die was, die is en die komt.’
9 Die vier levende wezens eren, prijzen en danken Hem die op de troon zit en die voor altijd en eeuwig leeft. 10 Telkens wanneer zij dat doen, vallen de vierentwintig ouderlingen voor Hem neer om Hem te aanbidden en Hem als de Heer van hun leven te erkennen. 11 En zij zeggen: ‘Here, onze God, U bent alle lof, eer en macht waard, omdat U alles gemaakt hebt. Alles is ontstaan en gemaakt, omdat U het wilde.’

4 After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me like [the calling of] a [a]war trumpet said, Come up here, and I will show you what must take place in the future.
2 At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with One seated on the throne!(A)
3 And He Who sat there appeared like [the crystalline brightness of] jasper and [the fiery] sardius, and encircling the throne there was a halo that looked like [a rainbow of] emerald.(B)
4 Twenty-four other thrones surrounded the throne, and seated on these thrones were twenty-four elders ([b]the members of the heavenly Sanhedrin), arrayed in white clothing, with crowns of gold upon their heads.
5 Out from the throne came flashes of lightning and rumblings and peals of thunder, and in front of the throne seven blazing torches burned, which are the seven Spirits of God [[c]the sevenfold Holy Spirit];
6 And in front of the throne there was also what looked like a transparent glassy sea, as if of crystal. And around the throne, in the center at each side of the throne, were four living creatures (beings) who were full of eyes in front and behind [with intelligence as to what is before and at the rear of them].(C)
7 The first living creature (being) was like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature had the face of a man, and the fourth living creature [was] like a flying eagle.(D)
8 And the four living creatures, individually having six wings, were full of eyes all over and within [underneath their wings]; and day and night they never stop saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty (Omnipotent), Who was and Who is and Who is to come.(E)
9 And whenever the living creatures offer glory and honor and thanksgiving to Him Who sits on the throne, Who lives forever and ever (through the eternities of the eternities),(F)
10 The twenty-four elders ([d]the members of the heavenly Sanhedrin) fall prostrate before Him Who is sitting on the throne, and they worship Him Who lives forever and ever; and they throw down their crowns before the throne, crying out,
11 Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honor and dominion, for You created all things; by Your will they were [brought into being] and were created.(G)

2 Immediately (D)I was in the Spirit; and behold, (E)a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 3 [a]And He who sat there was (F)like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; (G)and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4 (H)Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, (I)clothed in white [b]robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 And from the throne proceeded (J)lightnings, [c]thunderings, and voices. (K)Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are (L)the[d] seven Spirits of God.
6 Before the throne there [e]was (M)a sea of glass, like crystal. (N)And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. 7 (O)The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. 8 The four living creatures, each having (P)six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, (T)who lives forever and ever, 10 (U)the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You(V) are worthy, [g]O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
(W)For You created all things,
And by (X)Your will they [h]exist and were created.”
