¹⁵ Because you rejoiced^(A) when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir,^(B) you and all of Edom.^(C) Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”

⁴⁰ and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,^(A) save yourself!^(B) Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”^{(C) 41} In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. ⁴² “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel!^(D) Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe^(E) in him. ⁴³ He trusts in God. Let God rescue him^(F) now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

¹⁶ These people are grumblers^(A) and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires;^(B) they boast^(C) about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

⁶ For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you have clapped your hands^(A) and stamped your feet, rejoicing with all the malice of your heart against the land of Israel,^{(B) 7} therefore I will stretch out my hand^(C) against you and give you as plunder^(D) to the nations. I will wipe you out from among the nations and exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy^(E) you, and you will know that I am the Lord.^(F)’”
