Legge relativa ai voti
30 (A)Mosè parlò ai capi delle tribú dei figli d'Israele e disse:
2 «Questo è l'ordine dato dal Signore: quando uno avrà fatto un voto al Signore o avrà con giuramento assunto un solenne impegno, non verrà meno alla sua parola, ma metterà in pratica tutto quello che ha promesso.
3 (B)«Cosí pure quando una donna, ancora giovane e nella casa di suo padre, avrà fatto un voto al Signore e avrà assunto un solenne impegno, 4 se il padre, avendo conoscenza del voto di lei e dell'impegno che ha assunto, non dice nulla a questo proposito, tutti i voti di lei saranno validi e saranno validi tutti gli impegni che ha assunto. 5 Ma se il padre, il giorno che ne viene a conoscenza, le fa opposizione, tutti i voti di lei e tutti gli impegni che avrà assunto non saranno validi; il Signore glieli condonerà, perché il padre le ha fatto opposizione. 6 Se si sposa mentre è legata da voti o impegnata da una promessa fatta alla leggera solo con le labbra, 7 se il marito viene a saperlo e il giorno che ne è informato non dice nulla, i voti di lei saranno validi e saranno validi gli impegni che lei ha assunto. 8 Ma se il marito, il giorno che ne viene a conoscenza, le fa opposizione, egli annullerà il voto che lei ha fatto, e la promessa che ha proferito alla leggera per la quale si è impegnata; e il Signore gliela condonerà.
9 Ma il voto di una vedova o di una donna ripudiata, qualunque sia l'impegno che ha assunto, rimarrà valido. 10 Quando una donna, nella casa di suo marito, farà dei voti o si legherà con un giuramento 11 e il marito ne avrà conoscenza, se il marito non dice nulla e non le fa opposizione, tutti i voti di lei saranno validi, e saranno validi tutti gli impegni che avrà assunto. 12 Ma se il marito, il giorno che viene a saperlo, li annulla, tutto ciò che le sarà uscito dalle labbra, siano voti o impegni che ha assunto, non sarà valido; il marito lo ha annullato; e il Signore glielo condonerà. 13 Il marito può convalidare o annullare qualunque voto e qualunque giuramento, per il quale la moglie si è impegnata a mortificare la sua persona.[a] 14 Ma se il marito, giorno dopo giorno, non dice nulla in proposito, egli convalida cosí tutti i voti di lei e tutti gli impegni che la moglie ha assunto; li convalida, perché non ha detto nulla a questo proposito il giorno che ne ha avuto conoscenza. 15 Ma se li annulla qualche tempo dopo averne avuto conoscenza, sarà responsabile del peccato della moglie».
16 Tali sono le leggi che il Signore prescrisse a Mosè, riguardo al marito e alla moglie, al padre e alla figlia, quando questa non è ancora sposata, in casa di suo padre.

30 [a]Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel, “This is what Yahweh has commanded about vows: 2 If a man makes a vow to Yahweh that he will do something or swears an oath that he won’t do something, he must not break his word. He must do everything he said he would do.
3 “A young girl, who still lives in her father’s house, might make a vow to Yahweh that she will do something or swear an oath that she won’t do something. 4 If her father says nothing to her when he hears about it, her vow or oath must be kept. 5 But if her father objects when he hears about it, her vow or oath doesn’t have to be kept. Yahweh will free her from this vow or oath because her father objected.
6 “An unmarried woman might make a vow that she will do something or carelessly promise that she won’t do something. When she marries, 7 her husband may hear about it but say nothing to her. Then her vow or oath must be kept. 8 But if her husband objects when he hears about it, he can cancel the vow or promise she made. Yahweh will free her from this vow or promise.
9 “But a widow or a divorced woman must keep her vow or her promise.
10 “A married woman might make a vow that she will do something or swear an oath that she won’t do something. 11 Her husband may hear about it but may say nothing and not object. Then her vow or oath must be kept. 12 But if her husband cancels it when he hears about it, nothing she said in her vow or oath has to be kept. Her husband has canceled it, and Yahweh will free her from this vow or oath.
13 “A husband decides whether or not his wife has to keep any vow to do something or any oath to do without something. 14 If he says nothing to her about it day after day, this means he’s decided that she must keep her vow or oath. She must keep it because he said nothing to her when he heard about it. 15 But if he cancels it later, he will suffer the consequences.”
16 These are the laws Yahweh gave Moses for husbands and wives, and for fathers with young daughters still living at home.
