30 [a]Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel, “This is what Yahweh has commanded about vows: 2 If a man makes a vow to Yahweh that he will do something or swears an oath that he won’t do something, he must not break his word. He must do everything he said he would do.
3 “A young girl, who still lives in her father’s house, might make a vow to Yahweh that she will do something or swear an oath that she won’t do something. 4 If her father says nothing to her when he hears about it, her vow or oath must be kept. 5 But if her father objects when he hears about it, her vow or oath doesn’t have to be kept. Yahweh will free her from this vow or oath because her father objected.
6 “An unmarried woman might make a vow that she will do something or carelessly promise that she won’t do something. When she marries, 7 her husband may hear about it but say nothing to her. Then her vow or oath must be kept. 8 But if her husband objects when he hears about it, he can cancel the vow or promise she made. Yahweh will free her from this vow or promise.
9 “But a widow or a divorced woman must keep her vow or her promise.
10 “A married woman might make a vow that she will do something or swear an oath that she won’t do something. 11 Her husband may hear about it but may say nothing and not object. Then her vow or oath must be kept. 12 But if her husband cancels it when he hears about it, nothing she said in her vow or oath has to be kept. Her husband has canceled it, and Yahweh will free her from this vow or oath.
13 “A husband decides whether or not his wife has to keep any vow to do something or any oath to do without something. 14 If he says nothing to her about it day after day, this means he’s decided that she must keep her vow or oath. She must keep it because he said nothing to her when he heard about it. 15 But if he cancels it later, he will suffer the consequences.”
16 These are the laws Yahweh gave Moses for husbands and wives, and for fathers with young daughters still living at home.

The Law Concerning Vows
30 Then Moses spoke to (A)the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: 2 (B)If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or (C)swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall (D)do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.
3 “Or if a woman makes a vow to the Lord, and binds herself by some agreement while in her father’s house in her youth, 4 and her father hears her vow and the agreement by which she has bound herself, and her father [a]holds his peace, then all her vows shall stand, and every agreement with which she has bound herself shall stand. 5 But if her father overrules her on the day that he hears, then none of her vows nor her agreements by which she has bound herself shall stand; and the Lord will release her, because her father overruled her.
6 “If indeed she takes a husband, while bound by her vows or by a rash utterance from her lips by which she bound herself, 7 and her husband hears it, and makes no response to her on the day that he hears, then her vows shall stand, and her agreements by which she bound herself shall stand. 8 But if her husband (E)overrules her on the day that he hears it, he shall make void her vow which she took and what she uttered with her lips, by which she bound herself, and the Lord will release her.
9 “Also any vow of a widow or a divorced woman, by which she has bound herself, shall stand against her.
10 “If she vowed in her husband’s house, or bound herself by an agreement with an oath, 11 and her husband heard it, and made no response to her and did not overrule her, then all her vows shall stand, and every agreement by which she bound herself shall stand. 12 But if her husband truly made them void on the day he heard them, then whatever proceeded from her lips concerning her vows or concerning the agreement binding her, it shall not stand; her husband has made them [b]void, and the Lord will release her. 13 Every vow and every binding oath to afflict her soul, her husband may confirm it, or her husband may make it void. 14 Now if her husband makes no response whatever to her from day to day, then he confirms all her vows or all the agreements that bind her; he confirms them, because he made no response to her on the day that he heard them. 15 But if he does make them void after he has heard them, then he shall bear her guilt.”
16 These are the statutes which the Lord commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, and between a father and his daughter in her youth in her father’s house.

3 “Quando uma moça que ainda vive na casa de seu pai fizer um voto ao Senhor ou obrigar-se por um compromisso 4 e seu pai souber do voto ou compromisso, mas nada lhe disser, então todos os votos e cada um dos compromissos pelos quais se obrigou serão válidos. 5 Mas, se o pai a proibir quando souber do voto, nenhum dos votos ou dos compromissos pelos quais se obrigou será válido; o Senhor a livrará porque o seu pai a proibiu.
6 “Se ela se casar depois de fazer um voto ou depois de seus lábios proferirem uma promessa precipitada pela qual se obriga a si mesma 7 e o seu marido o souber, mas nada lhe disser no dia em que ficar sabendo, então os seus votos ou compromissos pelos quais ela se obrigou serão válidos. 8 Mas, se o seu marido a proibir quando o souber, anulará o voto que a obriga ou a promessa precipitada pela qual ela se obrigou, e o Senhor a livrará.
9 “Qualquer voto ou compromisso assumido por uma viúva ou por uma mulher divorciada será válido.
10 “Se uma mulher que vive com o seu marido fizer um voto ou obrigar-se por juramento a um compromisso 11 e o seu marido o souber, mas nada lhe disser e não a proibir, então todos os votos ou compromissos pelos quais ela se obrigou serão válidos. 12 Mas, se o seu marido os anular quando deles souber, então nenhum dos votos ou compromissos que saíram de seus lábios será válido. Seu marido os anulou, e o Senhor a livrará. 13 O marido poderá confirmar ou anular qualquer voto ou qualquer compromisso que a obrigue a humilhar-se[a]. 14 Mas, se o marido nada lhe disser a respeito disso até o dia seguinte, com isso confirma todos os seus votos ou compromissos pelos quais se obrigou. Ele os confirma por nada lhe dizer quando os ouviu. 15 Se, contudo, ele os anular algum tempo depois de ouvi-los, ele sofrerá as conseqüências de sua iniqüidade”.
16 São essas as ordenanças que o Senhor deu a Moisés a respeito do relacionamento entre um homem e sua mulher, e entre um pai e sua filha moça que ainda vive na casa do pai.
