3 Na korte tijd deed het hele volk mee aan de verering van Baäl-Peor, de afgod van de Moabieten. Toen werd de Here toornig op zijn volk. 4 Hij gaf Mozes het bevel: ‘Stel alle stamleiders terecht. Hang hen op in de blakende zon voor de ogen van de Here, zodat zijn vreselijke toorn van het volk wordt afgewend.’ 5 En Mozes gaf de rechters de opdracht allen die Baäl hadden aanbeden, op te hangen.

New International Version
3 So Israel yoked themselves to(A) the Baal of Peor.(B) And the Lord’s anger burned against them.
4 The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the leaders(C) of these people, kill them and expose(D) them in broad daylight before the Lord,(E) so that the Lord’s fierce anger(F) may turn away from Israel.”
5 So Moses said to Israel’s judges, “Each of you must put to death(G) those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor.”(H)
