Rivolta di Core, Datan e Abiram
16 Ora Core figlio di Izear, figlio di Keat, figlio di Levi, e Datan e Abiram, figli di Eliab, figlio di Pallu, figlio di Ruben, 2 presero altra gente e insorsero contro Mosè, con duecentocinquanta uomini tra gli Israeliti, capi della comunità, membri del consiglio, uomini stimati; 3 radunatisi contro Mosè e contro Aronne, dissero loro: «Basta! Tutta la comunità, tutti sono santi e il Signore è in mezzo a loro; perché dunque vi innalzate sopra l'assemblea del Signore?».
4 Quando Mosè ebbe udito questo, si prostrò con la faccia a terra; 5 poi disse a Core e a tutta la gente che era con lui: «Domani mattina il Signore farà conoscere chi è suo e chi è santo e se lo farà avvicinare: farà avvicinare a sé colui che egli avrà scelto. 6 Fate questo: prendete gli incensieri tu e tutta la gente che è con te; 7 domani vi metterete il fuoco e porrete profumo aromatico davanti al Signore; colui che il Signore avrà scelto sarà santo. Basta, figli di Levi!». 8 Mosè disse poi a Core: «Ora ascoltate, figli di Levi! 9 E' forse poco per voi che il Dio d'Israele vi abbia segregati dalla comunità d'Israele e vi abbia fatti avvicinare a sé per prestare servizio nella Dimora del Signore e per tenervi davanti alla comunità, esercitando per essa il vostro ministero? 10 Egli vi ha fatti avvicinare a sé, te e tutti i tuoi fratelli figli di Levi con te e ora pretendete anche il sacerdozio? 11 Per questo tu e tutta la gente che è con te siete convenuti contro il Signore! E chi è Aronne perché vi mettiate a mormorare contro di lui?».
12 Poi Mosè mandò a chiamare Datan e Abiram, figli di Eliab; ma essi dissero: «Noi non verremo. 13 E' forse poco per te l'averci fatti partire da un paese dove scorre latte e miele per farci morire nel deserto, perché tu voglia fare il nostro capo e dominare su di noi? 14 Non ci hai davvero condotti in un paese dove scorre latte e miele, né ci hai dato il possesso di campi e di vigne! Credi tu di poter privare degli occhi questa gente? Noi non verremo». 15 Allora Mosè si adirò molto e disse al Signore: «Non gradire la loro oblazione; io non ho preso da costoro neppure un asino e non ho fatto torto ad alcuno di loro».
Il castigo
16 Mosè disse a Core: «Tu e tutta la tua gente trovatevi domani davanti al Signore: tu e loro con Aronne; 17 ciascuno di voi prenda l'incensiere, vi metta il profumo aromatico e porti ciascuno il suo incensiere davanti al Signore: duecentocinquanta incensieri. Anche tu e Aronne; ciascuno prenda un incensiere». 18 Essi dunque presero ciascuno un incensiere, vi misero il fuoco, vi posero profumo aromatico e si fermarono all'ingresso della tenda del convegno; lo stesso fecero Mosè e Aronne.
19 Core convocò tutta la comunità presso Mosè e Aronne all'ingresso della tenda del convegno; la gloria del Signore apparve a tutta la comunità. 20 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: 21 «Allontanatevi da questa comunità e io li consumerò in un istante». 22 Ma essi, prostratisi con la faccia a terra, dissero: «Dio, Dio degli spiriti di ogni essere vivente! Un uomo solo ha peccato e ti vorresti adirare contro tutta la comunità?». 23 Il Signore disse a Mosè: 24 «Parla alla comunità e ordinale: Ritiratevi dalle vicinanze della dimora di Core, Datan e Abiram».
25 Mosè si alzò e andò da Datan e da Abiram; gli anziani di Israele lo seguirono. 26 Egli disse alla comunità: «Allontanatevi dalle tende di questi uomini empi e non toccate nulla di ciò che è loro, perché non periate a causa di tutti i loro peccati». 27 Così quelli si ritirarono dal luogo dove stavano Core, Datan e Abiram. Datan e Abiram uscirono e si fermarono all'ingresso delle loro tende con le mogli, i figli e i bambini.
28 Mosè disse: «Da questo saprete che il Signore mi ha mandato per fare tutte queste opere e che io non ho agito di mia iniziativa. 29 Se questa gente muore come muoiono tutti gli uomini, se la loro sorte è la sorte comune a tutti gli uomini, il Signore non mi ha mandato; 30 ma se il Signore fa una cosa meravigliosa, se la terra spalanca la bocca e li ingoia con quanto appartiene loro e se essi scendono vivi agli inferi, allora saprete che questi uomini hanno disprezzato il Signore». 31 Come egli ebbe finito di pronunciare tutte queste parole, il suolo si profondò sotto i loro piedi, 32 la terra spalancò la bocca e li inghiottì: essi e le loro famiglie, con tutta la gente che apparteneva a Core e tutta la loro roba. 33 Scesero vivi agli inferi essi e quanto loro apparteneva; la terra li ricoprì ed essi scomparvero dall'assemblea. 34 Tutto Israele che era attorno ad essi fuggì alle loro grida; perché dicevano: «La terra non inghiottisca anche noi!».
35 Un fuoco uscì dalla presenza del Signore e divorò i duecentocinquanta uomini, che offrivano l'incenso.

Rebellion Against Moses and Aaron
16 Now (A)Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with (B)Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men; 2 and they rose up before Moses with some of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the congregation, (C)representatives of the congregation, men of renown. 3 (D)They gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “You [a]take too much upon yourselves, for (E)all the congregation is holy, every one of them, (F)and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”
4 So when Moses heard it, he (G)fell on his face; 5 and he spoke to Korah and all his company, saying, “Tomorrow morning the Lord will show who is (H)His and who is (I)holy,[b] and will cause him to come near to Him. That one whom He chooses He will cause to (J)come near to Him. 6 Do this: Take censers, Korah and all your company; 7 put fire in them and put incense in them before the Lord tomorrow, and it shall be that the man whom the Lord chooses is the holy one. You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi!”
8 Then Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi: 9 Is it (K)a small thing to you that the God of Israel has (L)separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the work of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to serve them; 10 and that He has brought you near to Himself, you and all your brethren, the sons of Levi, with you? And are you seeking the priesthood also? 11 Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against the Lord. (M)And what is Aaron that you complain against him?”
12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, but they said, “We will not come up! 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of (N)a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you should (O)keep acting like a prince over us? 14 Moreover (P)you have not brought us into (Q)a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up!”
15 Then Moses was very angry, and said to the Lord, (R)“Do not [c]respect their offering. (S)I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I hurt one of them.”
16 And Moses said to Korah, “Tomorrow, you and all your company be present (T)before the Lord—you and they, as well as Aaron. 17 Let each take his censer and put incense in it, and each of you bring his censer before the Lord, two hundred and fifty censers; both you and Aaron, each with his censer.” 18 So every man took his censer, put fire in it, laid incense on it, and stood at the door of the tabernacle of meeting with Moses and Aaron. 19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Then (U)the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.
20 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 21 (V)“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may (W)consume them in a moment.”
22 Then they (X)fell[d] on their faces, and said, “O God, (Y)the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and You be angry with all the (Z)congregation?”
23 So the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’ ”
25 Then Moses rose and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him. 26 And he spoke to the congregation, saying, (AA)“Depart now from the tents of these wicked men! Touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins.” 27 So they got away from around the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the door of their tents, with their wives, their sons, and their little (AB)children.
28 And Moses said: (AC)“By this you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works, for I have not done them (AD)of my own will. 29 If these men die naturally like all men, or if they are (AE)visited by the common fate of all men, then the Lord has not sent me. 30 But if the Lord creates (AF)a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they (AG)go down alive into the pit, then you will understand that these men have rejected the Lord.”
31 (AH)Now it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that the ground split apart under them, 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and (AI)all the men with Korah, with all their goods. 33 So they and all those with them went down alive into the pit; the earth closed over them, and they perished from among the assembly. 34 Then all Israel who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up also!”
35 And (AJ)a fire came out from the Lord and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering incense.
36 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 37 “Tell Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, to pick up the censers out of the blaze, for (AK)they are holy, and scatter the fire some distance away. 38 The censers of (AL)these men who sinned [e]against their own souls, let them be made into hammered plates as a covering for the altar. Because they presented them before the Lord, therefore they are holy; (AM)and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.” 39 So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, which those who were burned up had presented, and they were hammered out as a covering on the altar, 40 to be a [f]memorial to the children of Israel (AN)that no outsider, who is not a descendant of Aaron, should come near to offer incense before the Lord, that he might not become like Korah and his companions, just as the Lord had said to him through Moses.
Complaints of the People
41 On the next day (AO)all the congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You have killed the people of the Lord.” 42 Now it happened, when the congregation had gathered against Moses and Aaron, that they turned toward the tabernacle of meeting; and suddenly (AP)the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. 43 Then Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of meeting.
44 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 45 “Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.”
And they fell on their faces.
46 So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make [g]atonement for them; (AQ)for wrath has gone out from the Lord. The plague has begun.” 47 Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. 48 And he stood between the dead and the living; so (AR)the plague was stopped. 49 Now those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in the Korah incident. 50 So Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of meeting, for the plague had stopped.

6 Ito'y inyong gawin; kumuha kayo ng mga (I)suuban, si Core at ang kaniyang buong pulutong;
7 At lagyan ninyo ng apoy at patungan ninyo ng kamangyan bukas sa harap ng Panginoon: at mangyayari na ang tao na piliin ng Panginoon, ay siyang banal: kayo'y kumukuha ng malabis sa inyo, kayong mga anak ni Levi.
8 At sinabi ni Moises kay Core, Dinggin ninyo ngayon, kayong mga anak ni Levi:
9 (J)Minumunting bagay pa ba ninyo na kayo'y ibinukod ng Dios ng Israel sa kapisanan ng Israel, upang ilapit niya kayo sa kaniya, upang gawin ninyo ang paglilingkod sa tabernakulo ng Panginoon, at upang kayo'y tumayo sa harap ng kapisanan na mangasiwa sa kanila;
10 At inilapit ka niya sangpu ng lahat ng iyong mga kapatid na mga anak ni Levi? at hangarin din naman ninyo ang pagkasaserdote?
11 Kaya't ikaw at ang iyong buong pulutong ay napipisan laban sa Panginoon: at si (K)Aaron, ano nga't siya'y inyong inupasala?
12 At ipinatawag ni Moises si Dathan at si Abiram, na mga anak ni Eliab: at kanilang sinabi, Hindi kami sasampa:
13 Munting bagay pa ba na kami ay iyong pinasampa sa isang lupain na (L)binubukalan ng gatas at pulot, upang kami ay patayin sa ilang, kundi (M)napapanginoon ka pa mandin sa amin?
14 Bukod dito'y hindi mo kami dinala sa isang lupain na binubukalan ng gatas at pulot, ni binigyan mo kami ng manang bukid at mga ubasan: dudukitin mo ba ang mga mata ng mga taong ito? hindi kami sasampa.
15 At si Moises ay naginit na mainam, at sinabi sa Panginoon, (N)Huwag mong pagpitaganan ang kanilang handog: (O)ako'y hindi kumuha ng isang asno sa kanila ni gumawa ng masama sa kanino man sa kanila.
16 At sinabi ni Moises kay Core, Humarap ka at ang iyong buong kapisanan sa Panginoon, ikaw, at sila, at si Aaron, (P)bukas:
17 At kumuha ang bawa't isa ng kaniyang suuban, at lagyan ninyo ng kamangyan, at dalhin ninyo sa harap ng Panginoon, na bawa't isa'y magdala ng kaniyang suuban, na dalawang daan at limang pung suuban; ikaw naman at si Aaron, bawa't isa sa inyo'y may kaniyang suuban.
18 At kinuha ng bawa't isa ang kaniyang suuban, at kanilang nilagyan ng apoy at kanilang pinatungan ng kamangyan, at sila'y tumayo sa pintuan ng tabernakulo ng kapisanan na kasama ni Moises at ni Aaron.
19 At pinisan ni Core ang buong kapisanan laban sa kanila sa pintuan ng tabernakulo ng kapisanan: at ang (Q)kaluwalhatian ng Panginoon ay lumitaw sa buong kapisanan.
Pinarusahan ang manghihimagsik.
20 At sinalita ng Panginoon kay Moises at kay Aaron, na sinasabi,
21 (R)Humiwalay kayo sa gitna ng kapisanang ito, upang aking lipulin sila sa isang sangdali.
22 At sila'y (S)nagpatirapa, at nagsabi, Oh Dios, na (T)Dios ng mga diwa ng lahat ng laman, sa pagkakasala ba ng isang tao ay magagalit ka sa buong kapisanan?
23 At sinalita ng Panginoon kay Moises, na sinasabi,
24 Salitain mo sa kapisanan na iyong sabihin, Lumayo kayo sa palibot ng tabernakulo ni Core, ni Dathan, at ni Abiram.
25 At si Moises ay tumayo at naparoon kay Dathan at kay Abiram; at ang mga matanda sa Israel ay sumunod sa kaniya.
26 At sinalita ni Moises sa kapisanan na sinasabi, (U)Magsilayo kayo, isinasamo ko sa inyo, sa mga tolda ng masasamang taong ito, at huwag kayong humipo ng anomang bagay nila, baka kayo'y (V)mamatay sa lahat nilang kasalanan.
27 Gayon sila nagsilayo sa tabernakulo ni Core, ni Dathan, at ni Abiram sa lahat ng dako: at si Dathan at si Abiram ay nagsilabas, at nagsitayo sa pintuan ng kanilang mga tolda, at ang kanilang mga asawa, at ang kanilang mga anak, at ang kanilang bata.
28 At sinabi ni Moises, Dito ninyo makikilala na ako'y sinugo ng Panginoon na gawin ang lahat ng mga gawang ito; sapagka't hindi kinatha ng (W)aking sariling pagiisip.
29 Kung ang mga taong ito ay mamatay sa karaniwang kamatayan ng lahat ng tao, o kung sila'y dalawin ayon sa karaniwang pagdalaw sa lahat ng tao; ay hindi nga ako sinugo ng Panginoon.
30 Nguni't kung ang Panginoon ay lumikha ng isang bagong bagay, na anopa't ibuka ng (X)lupa ang kaniyang bibig, at sila'y lamunin, sangpu ng buong nauukol sa kanila, (Y)at sila'y ibabang mga buháy sa Sheol; ay inyo ngang mapagkikilala na (Z)minungkahi ng mga taong ito ang Panginoon.
31 (AA)At nangyari, na pagkatapos na masalita niya ang lahat ng salitang ito, na ang lupa na nasa ilalim nila ay bumuka:
32 At ibinuka ng lupa ang kaniyang bibig at nilamon sila, at ang kanilang mga sangbahayan, at ang (AB)lahat ng lalake na nauukol kay Core, at lahat ng kanilang pagaari.
33 Na anopa't sila at lahat ng nauukol sa kanila, ay nababang buháy sa Sheol: at sila'y pinagtikuman ng lupa, at sila'y nalipol sa gitna ng kapisanan.
34 At ang buong Israel na nasa palibot nila ay tumakas sa hiyaw nila; sapagka't kanilang sinabi, Baka pati tayo'y lamunin ng lupa.
35 At apoy ang (AC)lumabas na mula sa Panginoon, at nilamon ang dalawang daan at limang pung lalake na naghandog ng kamangyan.
Ginawang laminang pinukpok ang mga suuban ng mga manghihimagsik.
36 At sinalita ng Panginoon kay Moises, na sinasabi,
37 Salitain mo kay (AD)Eleazar na anak ni Aaron na saserdote, na kaniyang kunin ang mga suuban sa sunog, at magkalat ng apoy doon; sapagka't mga banal yaon;
38 Pati ng mga suuban ng mga (AE)makasalanang ito laban sa kanilang sariling buhay, at gawin mo sa kanilang mga laminang pinukpok na pinaka pangtakip sa dambana: sapagka't kanilang inihandog sa harap ng Panginoon: kaya't mga banal: at (AF)magiging isang tanda sa mga anak ni Israel.
39 At kinuha ni Eleazar na saserdote ang mga tansong suuban na inihandog ng mga nasunog; at kanilang pinukpok na ginawang pinaka pangtakip sa dambana:
40 Upang maging pinakaalaala sa mga anak ni Israel, (AG)upang sinomang ibang tao na hindi sa mga anak ni Aaron ay huwag lumapit na magsunog ng kamangyan sa harap ng Panginoon; upang huwag magaya kay Core at sa kaniyang mga kasama: gaya ng sinalita ng Panginoon sa kaniya sa pamamagitan ni Moises.
Inpasala ng kapisanan si Moises at si Aaron; Ipinadala ang salot.
41 Datapuwa't sa kinabukasan ay inupasala ng buong kapisanan ng mga anak ni Israel si Moises at si Aaron, na sinasabi, Inyong pinatay ang bayan ng Panginoon.
42 At nangyari, nang magpipisan ang kapisanan laban kay Moises at laban kay Aaron, na sila'y tumingin sa dako ng tabernakulo ng kapisanan; at, narito, tinakpan ng (AH)ulap (AI)at ang kaluwalhatian ng Panginoon ay lumitaw.
43 At si Moises at si Aaron ay naparoon sa tapat ng tabernakulo ng kapisanan.
44 At sinalita ng Panginoon kay Moises, na sinasabi,
45 (AJ)Lumayo kayo sa gitna ng kapisanang ito, upang aking lipulin sila sa isang sangdali. At sila'y nagpatirapa.
46 At sinabi ni Moises kay Aaron, Kunin mo ang iyong suuban, at lagyan mo ng apoy mula sa dambana at patungan ng kamangyan, at dalhin mong madali sa kapisanan, at itubos mo sa kanila: (AK)sapagka't may galit na lumabas sa harap ng Panginoon; ang salot ay nagpapasimula na.
47 At kinuha ni Aaron gaya ng sinalita ni Moises, at siya'y tumakbo sa gitna ng kapulungan; at, narito, ang salot ay nagpasimula sa gitna ng bayan; at siya'y naglagay ng kamangyan at itinubos sa bayan.
48 At siya'y tumayo sa gitna ng mga patay at ng mga buhay; at ang salot ay (AL)tumigil.
49 Ang nangamatay nga sa salot ay labing apat na libo at pitong daan, (AM)bukod pa yaong nangamatay dahil kay Core.
50 At si Aaron ay nagbalik kay Moises sa pintuan ng tabernakulo ng kapisanan: at ang salot ay tumigil.
