以色列人在什亭奉巴力毗珥
25 以色列人住在什亭，百姓与摩押女子行起淫乱。 2 因为这女子叫百姓来，一同给她们的神献祭，百姓就吃她们的祭物，跪拜她们的神。 3 以色列人与巴力毗珥联合，耶和华的怒气就向以色列人发作。 4 耶和华吩咐摩西说：“将百姓中所有的族长在我面前对着日头悬挂，使我向以色列人所发的怒气可以消了。” 5 于是摩西吩咐以色列的审判官说：“凡属你们的人，有与巴力毗珥联合的，你们各人要把他们杀了。”
6 摩西和以色列全会众正在会幕门前哭泣的时候，谁知，有以色列中的一个人，当他们眼前，带着一个米甸女人到他弟兄那里去。 7 祭司亚伦的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会中起来，手里拿着枪， 8 跟随那以色列人进亭子里去，便将以色列人和那女人由腹中刺透。这样，在以色列人中瘟疫就止息了。 9 那时遭瘟疫死的有二万四千人。
非尼哈之热衷
10 耶和华晓谕摩西说： 11 “祭司亚伦的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我向以色列人所发的怒消了，因他在他们中间，以我的忌邪为心，使我不在忌邪中把他们除灭。 12 因此，你要说：我将我平安的约赐给他， 13 这约要给他和他的后裔，作为永远当祭司职任的约，因他为神，有忌邪的心，为以色列人赎罪。”
14 那与米甸女人一同被杀的以色列人，名叫心利，是撒路的儿子，是西缅一个宗族的首领。 15 那被杀的米甸女人，名叫哥斯比，是苏珥的女儿。这苏珥是米甸一个宗族的首领。
16 耶和华晓谕摩西说： 17 “你要扰害米甸人，击杀他们。 18 因为他们用诡计扰害你们，在毗珥的事上和他们的姐妹米甸首领的女儿哥斯比的事上，用这诡计诱惑了你们。”这哥斯比，当瘟疫流行的日子，因毗珥的事被杀了。

25 以色列人駐紮在什亭期間，有些人與摩押女子行淫。 2 那些女子邀他們參加祭祀，他們吃了祭物，並跪拜她們的神明， 3 結果使以色列與巴力·毗珥苟合。耶和華大怒， 4 對摩西說：「把為首的人都抓起來，當著我的面在大白天處死他們，以消除我對以色列人的怒氣。」 5 於是，摩西對以色列的審判官說：「你們各自把權下與巴力·毗珥苟合的人處死。」
6 摩西和以色列全體會眾正在會幕門口痛哭的時候，有個以色列人當著他們的面把一個米甸女子帶進自家的帳篷。 7 亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，便起身離開會眾，拿著矛槍， 8 跟著進入那人的帳篷，一槍刺透那對男女的腹部。以色列人當中的瘟疫馬上止住了， 9 但已有兩萬四千人死於瘟疫。
10 耶和華對摩西說： 11 「亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈消了我對以色列人的怒氣。因為在會眾中他與我一樣痛恨不貞，我才沒有在烈怒中消滅他們。 12 你告訴他，我要賜給他平安的約， 13 使他和他的後代憑此約可以永遠做祭司，因為他為我除掉了不貞之人，為以色列人贖了罪。」
14 與米甸女子一同被殺的以色列人名叫心利，是撒路的兒子，是西緬支派的一個族長。 15 被殺的米甸女子名叫哥斯比，她父親蘇珥是米甸人的一個族長。 16 耶和華對摩西說： 17 「你要攻打米甸人，擊殺他們。 18 因為他們心存敵意，在毗珥陷害你們，他們的姊妹——米甸首領的女兒哥斯比誘惑你們，她在毗珥事件招來瘟疫之日被殺。」

25 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.
4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.
5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.
6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.
15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
16 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.
