8 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

²Speak unto Aaron and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.

³And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the Lord commanded Moses.

⁴And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the Lord had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

⁵And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

⁶Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.

⁷And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.

⁸Then let them take a young bullock with his meat offering, even fine flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin offering.

⁹And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of Israel together:

¹⁰And thou shalt bring the Levites before the Lord: and the children of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites:

¹¹And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the Lord for an offering of the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the Lord.

¹²And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, unto the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites.

¹³And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the Lord.

¹⁴Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.

¹⁵And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.

¹⁶For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.

¹⁷For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself.

¹⁸And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel.

¹⁹And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary.

²⁰And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.

²¹And the Levites were purified, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them as an offering before the Lord; and Aaron made an atonement for them to cleanse them.

²²And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.

²³And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

²⁴This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:

²⁵And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:

²⁶But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

Arrangement of the Lamps^(A)

8 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ²“Speak to Aaron, and say to him, ‘When you ^(B)arrange the lamps, the seven ^(C)lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.’ ” ³And Aaron did so; he arranged the lamps to face toward the front of the lampstand, as the Lord commanded Moses. ⁴^(D)Now this workmanship of the lampstand was hammered gold; from its shaft to its flowers it was ^(E)hammered work. ^(F)According to the pattern which the Lord had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand.

Cleansing and Dedication of the Levites

⁵Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ⁶“Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse them ceremonially. ⁷Thus you shall do to them to cleanse them: Sprinkle ^(G)water of purification on them, and ^(H)let^[a] them shave all their body, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean. ⁸Then let them take a young bull with ^(I)its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you shall take another young bull as a sin offering. ⁹^(J)And you shall bring the Levites before the tabernacle of meeting, ^(K)and you shall gather together the whole congregation of the children of Israel. ¹⁰So you shall bring the Levites before the Lord, and the children of Israel ^(L)shall lay their hands on the Levites; ¹¹and Aaron shall ^[b]offer the Levites before the Lord like a ^(M)wave offering from the children of Israel, that they may perform the work of the Lord. ¹²^(N)Then the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the young bulls, and you shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the Lord, to make atonement for the Levites.

¹³“And you shall stand the Levites before Aaron and his sons, and then offer them like a wave offering to the Lord. ¹⁴Thus you shall ^(O)separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be ^(P)Mine. ¹⁵After that the Levites shall go in to service the tabernacle of meeting. ²⁰Thus Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel did to the Levites; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them. ²¹^(W)And the Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes; then Aaron presented them like a wave offering before the Lord, and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. ²²^(X)After that the Levites went in to do their work in the tabernacle of meeting before Aaron and his sons; ^(Y)as the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

²³Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁴“This is what pertains to the Levites: ^(Z)From twenty-five years old and above one may enter to perform service in the work of the tabernacle of meeting; ²⁵and at the age of fifty years they must cease performing this work, and shall work no more. ²⁶They may minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of meeting, ^(AA)to attend to needs, but they themselves shall do no work. Thus you shall do to the Levites regarding their duties.”

The Seven Lamps

8 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²“Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you ^[a]mount the lamps, the seven lamps will ^(A)provide light in the front of the lampstand.’” ³Therefore Aaron did so; he ^[b]mounted its lamps at the front of the lampstand, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ⁴^(B)Now this was the workmanship of the lampstand, hammered work of gold; from its base to its flower ornamentation it was hammered work; ^(C)according to the ^[c]pattern which the Lord had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand.

Cleansing the Levites

⁵Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁶“Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel and ^(D)cleanse them. ⁷This is what you shall do to them, for their cleansing: sprinkle ^[d]purifying ^(E)water on them, and have them ^[e]^(F)use a razor over their whole ^[f]body, and they shall ^(G)wash their clothes and cleanse themselves. ⁸Then have them take a ^[g]bull with ^(H)its grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and you shall take a second ^[h]bull as a sin offering. ⁹So ^(I)you shall present the Levites in front of the tent of meeting. ^(J)You shall also assemble the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, ¹⁰and present the Levites before the Lord; and the sons of Israel ^(K)shall lay their hands on the Levites. ¹¹Aaron then shall ^[i]present the Levites before the Lord as a ^(L)wave offering from the sons of Israel, so that they may ^[j]qualify to perform the service of the Lord. ¹²Now ^(M)the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls; then you are to offer the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the Lord, to make atonement for the Levites. ¹³And you shall have the Levites stand before Aaron and his sons so as to present them as a wave offering to the Lord.

¹⁴“So you shall single out the Levites from among the sons of Israel, and ^(N)the Levites shall be Mine. ¹⁵Then after that the Levites may go in to serve the tent of meeting. But you shall cleanse them and ^(O)present them as a wave offering; ¹⁶for they are ^(P)exclusively given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself ^(Q)instead of the firstborn of every womb, the firstborn of all the sons of Israel. ¹⁷For ^(R)every firstborn among the sons of Israel is Mine, among the people and among the animals; on the day that I fatally struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for Myself. ¹⁸But I have taken the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel. ¹⁹And ^(S)I have given the Levites as ^[k]a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, to perform the service of the sons of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on behalf of the sons of Israel, so that there will be no ^(T)affliction among the sons of Israel due to ^[l]their approaching the sanctuary.”

²⁰So this is what Moses, Aaron, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel did to the Levites; according to everything that the Lord had commanded Moses regarding the Levites, so the sons of Israel did to them. ²¹^(U)The Levites, too, purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes; and Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the Lord. Aaron also made atonement for them to cleanse them. ²²Then after that the Levites went in to perform their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron and his sons; just as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

Retirement for the Levites

²³Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁴“This is what applies to the Levites: from ^(V)twenty-five years old and upward ^[m]they shall enter to perform service in the work of the tent of meeting. ²⁵But at the age of fifty years they shall ^[n]retire from service in the work and not work anymore. ²⁶They may, however, ^[o]assist their brothers in the tent of meeting, ^(W)to fulfill an obligation, but they themselves shall do no work. In this way you shall deal with the Levites in their obligations.”

8 El Señor dijo a Moisés: ²«Dile a Aarón: “Cuando instales las siete lámparas, estas deberán alumbrar hacia la parte delantera del candelabro”».

³Así lo hizo Aarón. Instaló las lámparas de modo que alumbraran hacia la parte delantera del candelabro, tal como el Señor se lo había ordenado a Moisés. ⁴Desde la base hasta las flores, el candelabro estaba hecho de oro trabajado, según el modelo que el Señor había revelado a Moisés.

Consagración de los levitas

⁵El Señor dijo a Moisés: ⁶«Toma a los levitas de entre los israelitas y purifícalos. ⁷Para purificarlos, rocíales agua purificadora y haz que se afeiten todo el cuerpo y se laven los vestidos. Así quedarán purificados. ⁸Luego tomarán un ternero y una ofrenda de harina refinada amasada con aceite. Tú, por tu parte, tomarás otro ternero como sacrificio para el perdón por su pecado. ⁹Llevarás a los levitas a la Tienda de reunión y congregarás a toda la comunidad israelita. ¹⁰Presentarás a los levitas ante el Señor y los israelitas les impondrán las manos. ¹¹Entonces Aarón presentará a los levitas ante el Señor como ofrenda mecida de parte de los israelitas. Así se cumplió todo lo que el Señor había mandado a Moisés en cuanto a los levitas.
