The Message
Nazirite Vows
6 1-4 God spoke to Moses: “Speak to the People of Israel; tell them, If any of you, man or woman, wants to make a special Nazirite vow, consecrating yourself totally to God, you must not drink any wine or beer, no intoxicating drink of any kind, not even the juice of grapes—in fact, you must not even eat grapes or raisins. For the duration of the consecration, nothing from the grapevine—not even the seeds, not even the skin—may be eaten.
5 “Also, for the duration of the consecration you must not have your hair cut. Your long hair will be a continuing sign of holy separation to God.
6-7 “Also, for the duration of the consecration to God, you must not go near a corpse. Even if it’s the body of your father or mother, brother or sister, you must not ritually defile yourself because the sign of consecration to God is on your head.
8 “For the entire duration of your consecration you are holy to God.
9-12 “If someone should die suddenly in your presence, so that your consecrated head is ritually defiled, you must shave your head on the day of your purifying, that is, the seventh day. Then on the eighth day bring two doves or two pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. The priest will offer one for the Absolution-Offering and one for the Whole-Burnt-Offering, purifying you from the ritual contamination of the corpse. You resanctify your hair on that day and reconsecrate your Nazirite consecration to God by bringing a yearling lamb for a Compensation-Offering. You start over; the previous days don’t count because your consecration was ritually defiled.
13-17 “These are the instructions for the time set when your special consecration to God is up. First, you are to be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. Then you will present your offerings to God: a healthy yearling lamb for the Whole-Burnt-Offering, a healthy yearling ewe for an Absolution-Offering, a healthy ram for a Peace-Offering, a basket of unraised bread made of fine flour, loaves mixed with oil, and crackers spread with oil, along with your Grain-Offerings and Drink-Offerings. The priest will approach God and offer up your Absolution-Offering and Whole-Burnt-Offering. He will sacrifice the ram as a Peace-Offering to God with the basket of unraised bread, and, last of all, the Grain-Offering and Drink-Offering.
18 “At the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, shave off the hair you consecrated and put it in the fire that is burning under the Peace-Offering.
19-20 “After you have shaved the hair of your consecration, the priest will take a shoulder from the ram, boiled, and a piece of unraised bread and a cracker from the basket and place them in your hands. The priest will then wave them before God, a Wave-Offering. They are holy and belong to the priest, along with the breast that was waved and the thigh that was offered.
“Now you are free to drink wine.
21 “These are the instructions for Nazirites as they bring offerings to God in their vow of consecration, beyond their other offerings. They must carry out the vow they have vowed following the instructions for the Nazirite.”
The Aaronic Blessing
22-23 God spoke to Moses: “Tell Aaron and his sons, This is how you are to bless the People of Israel. Say to them,
24 God bless you and keep you,
25 God smile on you and gift you,
26 God look you full in the face
and make you prosper.
27 In so doing, they will place my name on the People of Israel—
I will confirm it by blessing them.”

6 1,2 De Here gaf Mozes ook de volgende opdrachten voor het volk Israël: ‘Als een man of een vrouw een Nazireeërgelofte wil afleggen en zich zo op een speciale manier aan de Here wil toewijden, 3,4 mag hij gedurende zijn speciale wijding aan de Here geen sterke drank of wijn drinken. Zelfs jonge wijn, druivensap, druiven en rozijnen zijn verboden voor hem! Hij mag niets eten dat afkomstig is van de wijnrank, zelfs de pitten en velletjes niet. 5 Gedurende de hele periode van zijn Nazireeërschap mag hij zijn haar niet laten knippen, want hij is heilig en aan de Here gewijd, daarom moet hij zijn haar laten groeien. 6,7 Gedurende de periode van zijn wijding mag hij niet in de buurt van een dode komen, zelfs al is het zijn vader, moeder, broer of zuster. 8 Want het Nazireeërschap van God rust op zijn hoofd en gedurende de hele periode is hij heilig voor de Here. 9 Als iemand in zijn naaste omgeving plotseling sterft en hem verontreinigt, moet hij op de zevende dag zijn hoofdhaar afknippen en zo worden gereinigd van de nabijheid van de dood. 10 De volgende dag, de achtste, moet hij twee tortelduiven of jonge duiven naar de priester brengen bij de ingang van de tabernakel. 11 De priester zal de ene duif als zondoffer en de andere als brandoffer offeren en zo verzoening over hem doen. Die dag moet hij zijn gelofte opnieuw afleggen en zijn haar weer laten groeien. 12 De dagen van zijn gelofte voor zijn verontreiniging tellen niet meer mee. Hij moet opnieuw beginnen met een nieuwe gelofte en een eenjarig lam als schuldoffer brengen.
13 Aan het einde van zijn Nazireeërschap moet hij naar de ingang van de tabernakel gaan met de volgende offers: 14 een eenjarig lam zonder gebreken als brandoffer, een eenjarige ooi zonder gebreken als zondoffer, een ram zonder gebreken als vredeoffer, 15 een mand met ongezuurd brood, koeken van meelbloem met olie vermengd en ongezuurde wafels met olie bestreken, het begeleidende spijsoffer en de drankoffers. 16 De priester zal deze offers aan de Here aanbieden, eerst het zondoffer en het brandoffer, 17 dan de ram van het vredeoffer, samen met de mand met ongezuurd brood en ten slotte het spijsoffer met het drankoffer. 18 Dan moet de Nazireeër zijn hoofdhaar—het teken van zijn wijding aan de Here—afknippen. Dit zal worden gedaan bij de ingang van de tabernakel, waarna het haar op het vuur onder het vredeoffer zal worden verbrand. 19 Nadat zijn haar is afgeknipt, zal de priester de geroosterde schouder van de ram, een van de ongezuurde koeken en een van de ongezuurde wafels nemen en deze in de handen van de man leggen. 20 De priester zal het daarna allemaal aan de Here offeren door het omhoog te heffen. Alles is heilig voor de priester, evenals de borst en de schouder die als een beweegoffer aan de Here zijn geofferd. Daarna mag de Nazireeër weer wijn drinken, omdat hij van zijn gelofte is ontslagen.
21 Dit zijn de voorschriften voor het Nazireeërschap en de offers die hij moet brengen aan het einde van de periode van speciale wijding aan de Here. Naast deze offers moet hij ook die offers brengen die hij de Here beloofde toen hij zijn gelofte aflegde.’
22,23 Toen zei de Here tegen Mozes: ‘Zeg tegen Aäron en zijn zonen dat zij de Israëlieten op de volgende wijze moeten zegenen:
24-26 De Here geve u zijn zegen en bescherming, de Here geve u zijn nabijheid en inzicht, de Here geve u zijn genade, laat de Here zijn oog op u gericht houden en u vrede geven.
27 Zo zullen zij mijn naam op de Israëlieten leggen en Ik Zelf zal hen zegenen.’

6 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord:
3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.
5 All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the Lord, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.
6 All the days that he separateth himself unto the Lord he shall come at no dead body.
7 He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.
8 All the days of his separation he is holy unto the Lord.
9 And if any man die very suddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his consecration; then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it.
10 And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
11 And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day.
12 And he shall consecrate unto the Lord the days of his separation, and shall bring a lamb of the first year for a trespass offering: but the days that were before shall be lost, because his separation was defiled.
13 And this is the law of the Nazarite, when the days of his separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
14 And he shall offer his offering unto the Lord, one he lamb of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish for a sin offering, and one ram without blemish for peace offerings,
15 And a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread anointed with oil, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings.
16 And the priest shall bring them before the Lord, and shall offer his sin offering, and his burnt offering:
17 And he shall offer the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the Lord, with the basket of unleavened bread: the priest shall offer also his meat offering, and his drink offering.
18 And the Nazarite shall shave the head of his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.
19 And the priest shall take the sodden shoulder of the ram, and one unleavened cake out of the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and shall put them upon the hands of the Nazarite, after the hair of his separation is shaven:
20 And the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the Lord: this is holy for the priest, with the wave breast and heave shoulder: and after that the Nazarite may drink wine.
21 This is the law of the Nazarite who hath vowed, and of his offering unto the Lord for his separation, beside that that his hand shall get: according to the vow which he vowed, so he must do after the law of his separation.
22 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,
24 The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
27 And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.

19 ‘And the priest shall take the (Q)boiled shoulder of the ram, one (R)unleavened cake from the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and (S)put them upon the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved his consecrated hair, 20 and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the Lord; (T)they are holy for the priest, together with the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering. After that the Nazirite may drink wine.’
21 “This is the law of the Nazirite who vows to the Lord the offering for his separation, and besides that, whatever else his hand is able to provide; according to the vow which he takes, so he must do according to the law of his separation.”
The Priestly Blessing
22 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 23 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them:
24 “The Lord (U)bless you and (V)keep you;
25 The Lord (W)make His face shine upon you,
And (X)be gracious to you;
26 (Y)The Lord [e]lift up His countenance upon you,
And (Z)give you peace.” ’
27 (AA)“So they shall [f]put My name on the children of Israel, and (AB)I will bless them.”
